Fighters need to shoot the ships that are directly in front of them, which is why they have guns. Bombers need to blow up the target and defend against fighters that are trying to keep them from doing it. Bombers need turrets to shoot the fighters behind and beside them, but do not need guns for shooting the ships in front of them. Guns on a bomber are also irrelevant when the turrets can shoot forward.
Bombers could still mount fighter turrets and do pretty good damage to fighters, or mount bomber turrets and do big damage to freighters and caps.
Fighters=guns and missiles
Bombers=turrets and torpedoes

I heard a rumor there are gonna be different variations of SNACs in 4.86.
It may or may not be just a cosmetic change.
I know someone posted a list of SNACs for different factions a while ago, but it was a community member, just brainstorming some ideas. Either way, I'm looking forward to that, definitely.

Yeah, I agree BUT caps - ARE NOT. Now, even 2 bombers can kill Dreadnaught almost for sure, unless the guy in cap will have a lucky missile shot or lucky shot from turrets. I mean really "lucky". Killing Dread can take them even 15-20 minutes but they will surely do it. I hope this turret zoom will change this situation a little bit, together with some obligatory slots for solarises in caps or something like that.
