i see tons of factions tags when i'm online (EST) but most of those are not official factions....which would label them as independents, so really i'm in the same boat as you are.

there are not a lot of official factions in discovery at the moment and not everyone will play their faction character everytime they log in.

It mostly depends on your timezone, really. You live in the states, you see alot of players from around there, and lesser Europe ones. You live in Europe, bit near the west, you see alot of european players. Just wait till 7-9 ish your time. Should see alot of peope, espescially on friday/in the weekend.
