Not much things inFL are compared with satisfaction from coming to your dry and dying fleet on cruise, quickly refilling it with all the b/b you have, and cruise out, also leaving the enemy in "WTF?!!!" state.

To what extent do nanobots and shield batteries exist in canon? Who produces them? How is it that they are sold at exactly the same price everywhere?
I bring up these questions because when I think of a repair ship, I think of it wandering around a damaged vessel, working on it with its robotic arms. But instead, what we have is basically a transport that just packs itself full of medkits and dumps them into space to be sucked up and applied by the ships that need them.
It might be more interesting, and realistic, if the RS had some sort of healing beam weapon.
All that aside, at what point does a battle become large enough that it's worth sacrificing a man to play medic?
The reason you dont see them very often is because of the amount of tears they cause whenever they do arrive in a battle tbh.

what a scarily rediculous statement coming from a dev member. give it a gunboat shield, core and armour, then you can call it a gunboat. Right now, 2 bs missiles and its dead, explain how it will dodge these without a CM dropper and its current speed and maneuverability, with almost impossible difficulty. 1 bs cerb and its dead, pretty much very little of anything on the hull even with cap 8, and its dead..
what people dont seem to realise is, If it gets attacked by anything that is a sufficient threat, the RS's existence is useless because it has to spend all its regens repairing itself and not other people, which is the whole point of the ship.
its very easily made redundant if the attacking party has a clue, why should it be instantly allowed to be shot at by caps. :lol:
Repair guns are possible and easy to implement thanks to adoxa's healing.dll, they cant recover shields though, only hull damage, so the gun will always damage shields unless the weapon damage type was set to a unique value and made to be 100% ineffective to all shield types.
and they can also be made so that they are not sold anywhere, and also if you remove them from the ship it removes you from the game to prevent abuse of these special weapons.
then you would need to balance them per faction, just like the rest of the guns.
Bigger shield isn't the answer - as you said, it'll have to expend resources while under attack. A bigger shield just means it runs out of those more quickly. Not sure about the healing plugin though - will run it by the balance folk. Easy way to prevent the turret from becoming abused: Require 250 cargo on it, then set it to a class 3 turret (bomber one). No bomber can carry it with that cargo requirement.

Repair ships need some love. As a Repair ship guy myself in a faction (look at siggy) the repair ship, when with the fleet, is the first target. So then you are some 12-25K away. You cannot get close in time if the ship that needs help (usually ALL OF THEM) have to be away from the battlezone so a repair ship can at least be of use in live fire battles. Also there are the Repair ship killers. It's all fun and game until five gunboats crawl up your butt. The ship itslef could do with a remodel or more turrets. The 1 gun on each side (Left, Right and the Back). It lacks the coverage and the firepower. Say can we give it the 400ms speed as well as a weapon class upgrade.
