Also, even though I've been playing for several months now, I still fondly remember my first night in minecraft.

I spent it cowering in fear in a pitch-black tiny cave, because I hadn't figured out how to make torches. Halfway through the night I made an oven and was able to use that for a tiny bit of light.

Er...no you don't...

Oven is 8x cobblestone. You can burn wood in it.

No torch required.

8 rock to an oven & 99/100 use coal.
A lump of coal will "smelt" 8 items, other standard fuel sources (bar charcoal) are less effecient.

Some original recipes have been amended since Alpha - as to be expected.
Game is constantly updated - More biomes, more blocks, more recipes, better AI mobs, more interesting geographical features & very mod friendly.

When I'm planning something epic, I design it on a spreadsheet 1st.
