It's not about your satisfaction, it's about prevention. Sometimes it's the only way to stop players from intimidating other players by twisting rules to gain advantage.

i'm not sure, but if you had attacked him with another char, you'd be liable for a smackdown.

the 'exempt from this rule' part means that transports can dock safely, and don't HAVE to stay out of that system. it doesn't mean that you can switch chars and attack him.

Actually, it does. If you believe it's somehow wrong suggest a rule change.

That's why I said it's bad taste and potentially falls under 0.0.
Thing is, as there is no pvp death :

5.8 A player who was killed in a PvP fight must not attack the enemy (player or players involved in the death) with any of the characters on his/her account(s) for 4 hours. Self-killing during a PvP fight is counted as a normal PvP death.

5.8 does not take place so he can reengage.

re-engage.

means that he was engaged in the first place.

re-engage:nono:

ofc, im just putting my own spin on things here; it might be that im wrong, but i interpret it as:
pirate engages trader
trader docks, and is exempt from four hour rule
trader undocks, and can freely interact with pirate again.

pirate engages trader
trader docks and switches character
traders new char re-engages pirate, banhammer wielded by the lords of disco

Correct and how it works at the moment

What we should have.
The rule needs a minor alteration.

When they added the exception to 5.6, I asked twice to prohibit the trader from re-engaging, and the admins declined twice, so it's absence is not an oversight. If you can dock your cargo ship, then the player has not suffered PVP death, and none of the rules regarding PVP death apply. You can stay in the system, you can attack the aggro party in another ship, and all the rest of it.

What you can't do is tell the pirate ~"yo I'm getting my other ship and kicking your butt" at which point it becomes OORP

Space is dangerous. If a trader docks and an LN gunboat appears it's probably because the trader reported you to authorities. The RP continuity exist. You as a pirate should be moving or you will be found and engaged.

I only see this as a problem if a random ship was after you but that's already covered by other rules (ID and bounty hunting restrictions).

Trader revenge is something we've, as a whole, been very much against for years. I believe we should still make sure it doesn't happen to keep a friendly environment on the server.
