The RM Cruiser is the original heavy cruiser, and is even referenced in some vanilla files as being a 'heavy cruiser'. The role of Cruisers in Freelancer and Disco have been heavy escort and capital ship siege-ing. However, a properly flown carrier can typically handle a cruiser. It is likely you are just being outmatched in terms of skill.
