Shigeo, i'm an independent on all of my characters as well.
The problem isnt independents, it's independents abusing equipment because nobody can tell them what to do. They need to have some self restraint.
I'm -all for- adding class 10 weapons to factions. hell, even if they're as powerful as the current codenames. I just dont like seeing people running around with 4-6 codename guns because they dont want to RP with their faction's weapons.
Shigeo, I'm all for mandating these restrictions to the few factions that don't restrict codes, too. I really don't give a damn if you're an indie or a faction man when I see you in-game, although if I see a faction tag I have a little more information- I won't have to scan your ID, I have some idea of your purposes (just like if I have read your RP story) and can handle you a little better than someone whose story I do not know. I can also lend a little more trust to some of them, but most of that still comes from personal experience. In my opinion, all interaction should be based on the individual or collective ability to RP- if a group has established its RP, then I view that RP as canon for disco, more or less undisputed. If a person establishes their RP (think Mon'Star and whatnot) then I view that just as well. If a person or group tries to establish something dumb, then I have no problems with those already established saying "no, you idiot" and doing something about it. Faction or not.
If a less known player tried to rp Mon'star today and we had no Mon'star currently, said player would be booed off the server.
Same for a Propsector or anyone else.
The old hands lament "Where has the excellent, perfect rp gone?"
I'm suggesting its been locked away behind the attitudes of "We aren't going to let you do that--we were here first."
It's not that new Mon'stars and the like don't show up--most just leave when they realize that they are never going to be at liberty to play those ideas until they get "accepted" by some current bloc of power players.
my rant, my opinion.
I agree with the idea of changing codes--it was the "hundreds of indies who don't follow rules comment" that got to me.

Really? If someone tried to setup Mon'Star, I think it would possibly be nudged a little but a lot of people would be interested in it, rather than booing it off. Exhibit A, check out zapp and Gronath's Fantasmas de la Nube Siniestre story. Yes, that's a terrorist ID application, or so I've been told.
The oldie grip is a lot weaker than some seem to think- I can think of numerous examples, such as zapp, Del, Dusty Lens, and (not to be vain:crazy:) myself, all of whom have joined rather recently, and gathered a nice bit of respect around the forums. I didn't even have Skype until quite recently, and I honestly believe that any idea will be taken for what its worth, regardless of who says it- then again, if you have a good track record, you might be trusted with more, but a genuine good idea is a genuine good idea. Same thing with genuine good RP, and genuine bad RP. Faction vs indie, oldtimer vs newbie, its irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. What matters is the idea, the post, the RP- everything else is secondary.
I too find it annoying to have so much code names. For my ravens i have something i just don't remember but they don't really help much they seem to be more an issue than a blessing. Well i guess cuz the raven claw has such a poor energy output. And i don't know what other people feel on this but i hate mini razors.
And i agree with all passion the limit use of nomad weapons. Especially on house law factions. Truly it doesn't sit well with me.

I haven't been on long enough to track all the changes in attitudes or know who's an "old timer" and who's an "old, old timer". I'd also agree that some things have started to change--as best I can tell.
But you put yourself in the position of a brand new player constantly hearing from the visible and established players--in game and on the forum--how its all these independents that are crap players here.
It creates a hostile environment that intimidates most from trying anything. Then some new guy stumbles in, hasn't got enough sense to be intimidated and maybe presents a play thats not the most fully developed and the inquisition publicly forces his confession or executes him.
Few players are nudged to improve from my experience here--most are kicked and stoned. I have seen little nudging--unless it was towards conformity with existing player factions.
I am not getting stoned or challenged on any Rp at the moment. Getting along well. but every time I see a "those indies/noobs" post, I think if I was a new guy, how crappy that would sound.
It's a very subtle, "Those of us who really know how to have fun will let you know when you can "attitude, quite often.
I can remember when Tenacity's rp appalled me but I never told him "your rp sucks" or went on a forum bash against him. It takes awhile to find your niche and I could see he was really invested. So it wasn't a problem to me.
We need to--I think have inclusive ideas--not exclusive ones--and we need to put emphasis on showing we are doing that all the time.
Does anyone understand what the problem is to me? It isn't the issues its the attitudes.

It's better to die with honor than live as a coward.
Equipping with a loadout of uberweapons that is out of RP is just wrong. It's an indication that the player is afraid to lose in matched combat and is willing to comprimise values. Yes, it's a game, but play it like you have integrity.
2 Codenames or Nomads per ship would be a good rule. It's unfortunate to need such a rule.
IMHO: Those people punish themselves anyway. The Nomad guns have a velocity of only 600, making them easier to dodge. Also, since the Codenames are such energy pigs, a good pilot can evade Code fire while his opponent bleeds his powerplant dry.

the problem right now is that it ISNT oorp to use codes/nomads. People use those weapons as a loophole to get powerful guns they wouldnt otherwise have access to.
Well I have a certain work going on about Nomad Blasters/Cannons. If all goes well and test will succeed I hope making showcase, probably around next weekend. Perhaps then codenames will also move onto a similar concept of obtaining them.
