Okay now add another Outcast, who sees Marcus and immediately goes hostile. Does Lorena defend her lover and start shooting at her faction mate? At that point you break the shared roleplay foundation for the server.
In order for it to work at all, Lorna and Marcus would have to keep it *very* private, so that there is no possibility of a third-party encounter (at which point it is a private roleplay that is separate from the server roleplay). Alternatively, and easier for everybody, is just dont get into that kind of situation.
Its very important, this server roleplay is predefined so that people can strap onto it and play along. It is all previously agreed upon, here are the roles, so that people can come and go. When you allow too much leeway you end up with stuff like IC Bonn Station, a monument to selfishness from people who knew better right until they didnt
And.... some people like to RP as the by-the-book lawman or military officer who delights in doing his/her duty and pewing the bad guys. Not all are meant to be divas.

I agree, in the end this thread wasn't about disco rp specifically anyways if I'm recalled correctly. I just got carried away while trying to explain what rp is for me/which way I prefer and used a disco analogy to clarify that on the IDs is written "May/Can" and not "Must" engage, attack, demand etc., which also is part of the predefined roleplay you mentioned.
It means not being that one guy who yells "ENEMY! KILL IT WITH FIRE!"
Drawing out what someone would do in real life, in the mind of a character that you have created with your own hands (usually) playing a life that is not yours. An escape.
Most people would not yell what is stated above, but take a role in it. Act a bit more professional on whatever job they are, perhaps even let curiosity show. You are not a static link. You behave as you want to behave as long as it is within reason. Unless you play an unreasonable character of course.
I know how to act according to the ID, duty, lore, situation I encounter, but I thinks that without character's history or general RP plan it is all simply a routine.
There must be an aim, which would make you move on, force you to start RP encounters, encourage others to RP with you. There must be something worth effort, but just simple routine and waiting for a someone who will start to RP with you first.
So I have yet to find out.

Spazzy, you like to shoot people a lot.Same thing goes for Doj and JetBlack.
What about your R.H.I.N.O char ?
It's still around ? 'Cause we had some nice fun with it, can't forget it but you liked to shoot more than pirating.
I never had a character named R.H.I.N.O, bugger off.

And that is the point
Role Play is not only express of your characters emotions, based on nothing, but imagination. When I said that ID take part in it, I meant that hunting pirates while you are navy officer is RP as well.
Well, it's kinda fun to read so many replies. Please keep up.

All the same what I wrote and this... Imagine situation, your character, police officer, met a nice person, you're having a chat. And suddenly you get a call, that someone's under attack, sending you coordinates and stuff. And here comes most interesting part. By the role playing of the faction you are in you MUST go and at least check the situation. But, many would rather keep chatting, then go and do what they have to do according to their ID. Just easy as that.
So, that makes conclusion that RP is not only something you chose. There is thing like Faction RP, isn't it? And that's the thing you have to follow, or face consequences if you don't.
Well, time to switch the topic. What is Faction RP? And what do you do if someone's personal RP going against his faction's RP?
