Why not just make POBs SRP only for friggin' sakes!? No issue concerning 'official faction toys', yet would, I think, improve RP overall. My 2 cents.
to continue on tyler his post.. it would also make sense if some station would be then inRP announced to be sieged. AND you get huge fights attacking and defending it.

The first one would be up to someone who knows the load to let us know. The other three are rather large assumptions and very vague, particularly the first.
There are many ways to play harmfully and ooRP without bases. Players were spread out before them too.

Sure sure... However, not every group would notify the other about sieging, they'd attempt a surprise attack.
Example: OC notices a illegal base in their 'territories', they'd just amass forces and go for the kill, whereas in most cases a legal entity such as the Libertonian government would opt for the owner to explain and pay up or get obliterated. (inRP this is all)

Lets get the groans and moans out of our system.
I had a bit of a thought come to mind as of late when it came to myself looking at all the player bases on the server. 79 Bases. Seventy.... Nine... Kinda much don't you think?
So a question came to mind: How can we reduce all these into a far more manageable amount to help the server stability and problems along with POB's?
This is my idea:
Quote:Bases would be reduced to 1 Lawful and 1 Unlawful per house.
Lawful Total across Sirius and Gallia: 5 Total Bases.
Unlawful Total across Sirius and Gallia: 5 Total Bases.
Now there would be exemptions to this rule:
Quote:Bases permitted to factions without a House:
Outcasts - Corsairs - GMG - Junkers - CR - IND - SCRA - IC - IMG
Factions Questionable:
Zoners - Council - HF
This part of the idea leaves out quite a few factions. Quasilawful groups (Hogosha, Unione Corse, Gallic Junkers), independent factions (RoS, BHG/BHG|Core, Order) or unlawfuls with few allies (Unioners, Xenos, AFA).
Provided it's given a list that's more well thought through, it's a good idea, SMI. I am, however, a bit against it at the moment.

And when that knowledge changes, for you, the universe changes. And that is as true for the whole of society as that is for the individual. We all are what we know, today. What we knew yesterday, was different; and so were we."

+1
Instead of having PoBs, we could have something better: Base conquest. Then capital ships would have something better to do instead to gank a lone snub. This idea has been forwarded before and it's a very nice idea in my opinion. If Navy goes in Hamburg and no RNC is there, let them shoot a base till the base becomes a Navy one. After the next restart, everything comes to normal.
Another nice idea would be, let's say, if Navy conquer a base 10 times, it becomes Navy once for all.
Returning to PoBs, they were meant to increase activity and did it. I know players who logs in just to supply the base. And that's all they do in game. No RP, no PvP, no interaction. This kind of activity is not needed in my opinion.

I see them becoming like the barge used to be (and now is again) if they were to become Official Faction only items, abused for a short time by some, used properly by others, until they fade away into the admin storage lockers not to be touched by the community.

I believe this has been said before as a good idea, until the part of the admins needing to approve it. It would though make bases an RP tool and not just a base spawned from scratch with no known owners like I've seen recently.
But now throwing out an idea again that I had a while back was making an outpost style base that's stuck at roughly core2 strength so it can still be killed by a small fleet. Don't give it the ability to build anything other than its shield, storage pods, and the lighter platforms(maybe even cut that down to just 1, either the array1 cruiser buster or array3 with anti fighter guns). That way the people who just want to make a small trade post can still, but would need to defend them better since they're weaker.
