*laughs* sry
Making smaller less fortunate or equipped people "blow up" is exactly what some enjoy doing, especially if theres a few people they can have a laugh with about it afterwards. They wouldnt play here, and it wouldnt be a problem, if they couldnt get away with it, most of the time justifying it with rp. I think the term for that is PVP'ers, you know, they log in with the character they want to kick a$$ with at that moment, or re-log whichever one is closest to a possible confrontation even if it might be an oorp one. Sometimes they just want to watch/investigate and thier trigger finger, lack of self control, or the excitement of the moment just draw them right into it anyways.
Why would a player looking to blow another player up run?, when the only consequence of losing is to respawn without thier cargo? The reward for them if they win is bragging rights, a screenshot, the satisfaction of ruining someones day, a good laugh, ect ect... If they lose and do follow the rules, they switch characters, more chances to pvp elsewhere, more fun for them, more complaints and gripes from those that were minding thier own buisness and are victimized, even if it was "inrp". I can't count the number of times ive been fired on without a word said, infact, in the 8 or so months ive been on this server, i think maybe two or three times someone has said something even resembling rp before opening fire on me. Not counting my traders.
They almost always end up bounty hunters or criminals/pirates because both tend to offer the best chances for pvp the most often of any other "profession". They have that "player" vs "player" mindset, regardless of what "character" they are playing and they WILL team up on you the moment someone is "singled out" and made a target. Theyll fly across a whole system searching for "the battle" even when they know others are allready there. They only care about rp because it lets them pvp within the rules, "more fun" to them is "more people blowing up" so they can "brag about it more with thier buddies". They generally use immature terms such as: "pwnage/i beat you, leave" when they win (sometimes even repeat killing a person so they cant leave the system while spitting rules and that they must leave or be "blown up" again, just repeating the cycle if they are docked in the same system, i really dont understand this mentality), or they scream "whoreage/haxxor/cheater" when they lose or don't like the way something is because its hurting thier percieved advantage.
Only way to solve that prob is....
1 character + 1 ship + 1 life = if you get blown up you respawn with the "create new character" window open.
People wouldnt be so hasty to buy expensive ships and or jump into ANY battle, even npc ones, if they knew that it might mean the end of thier character. The ones that dont care about rp, guess what, thier characters and thier money flow never last long enough to be anything more than a fly buzzing about your heads. A death message would MEAN something! If they screw it up by opening fire before opening a comm channel, or if they refuse to pay/attempt escape/surrender when they are getting beat then that character is toast. (yes i said surrender if it can keep you from being blown up, if the attacker only cares for pvp theyll prolly kill you anyways and you can report them for it. You better have a way to prove your being killed after surrendering though.)
Ofcourse 1 "life" is totally unreasonable for most online games.
Don't mean to offend anyone but thats how i see the PVP mindset, from the pov of a guy who allmost never fires first. I prefer the rp-co-op aspect of it more than the pvp.
Well, it seems i'm a quite usual target for flames.
Right, situation that happened:
I was in my fighter, going to change my weapons set up from 4x magma hammers to 4x debbies. I find a LH gunship with Pirate ID in front of manhattan, distance 2.5 kilometres. I'm by the Manhattan-West point lane exit, as i just came there. I turn back (with no shots fired from any of the sides, him in his LH gunship, me in my fighter) and go back to my "operation base", Norfolk shipyard. While i am in the lane with my fighter, i hear him taunting me "run, coward LSF, you are a coward" blebleble, as i didn't engage his gunship in my single fighter. I take the bomber from Norfolk, and find an allied Orca gunboat around. We both go towards Manhattan, engage him, and kill him.
So, capwhoring means one gunboat and a bomber against your gunship?
So, as i was in your radar range, though you didn't even seem to want to fire at me, it means i have to leave system for 4 hours because i took a trade lane? Unless you had some infernos or razors on that gunship, which you didn't (full OC turrets loadout), i was out of weapons range.
So, ... am i really such an easy target for flames?
EDIT: Really, if anyone thinks i violate a rule, just report me ASAP. I do not mind beeing sanctioned if i disregard a rule or whatever, but starting flame because you wanted to fight me 1 on 1 on my fighter, and i decided my bomber was a better option, without having engaged before with you, as you weren't even close to my fighter on first encounter, is quite sad.
Oh, i re-readed it all. Yes, there was a battleship in the area. A NPC battleship. he said something alnog the lines of "Dang NPC battleship spawned right here" or something like that... so... is that my fault too?
So that makes "friendly" forces one Player Gunboat, one Player Bomber, and one NPC Battleship.
And i have no battleships in any of my accounts, neither anything over a gunboat, should the "he be lyin', he haz a battlefly!" thing arise.
By the way weren't you, Ross.Polo, the LPI with the lane hacker gunship who attacked malta?.. *cough*
If you knew you were right, i'm sure you would have reported me. So, i don't know if you expected me to just walk away silently, or just flame me, liberty, and LSF by the way. You wanted to blow up a fighter, but found out the fighter would not get into your weapons range, and you were destroyed for your fails. So that annoyed you, huh? well, i'm so sorry.

THis might be classified as intelligence. It seems he was playing the role of a man without a death wish.
