I had an encounter about a week ago where a collective cruiser shot me without any RP, claimed he was testing his guns and something to do with my ping(?), clipped my hull down to nearly nothing, when I stopped firing and tried to RP with him, he just shot me again without any further engagement messages.

This was on an SRP Gammu character with six years of continuous RP.

Come on guys. Don't give lulwuts cruisers. I've expressed an interest in RPing with you, and the direct outcome of that was pretty intense.

First off. Its very nice that you have a 6 year old SRP. I also don't care about it. My character had never met yours, and the one time we did, you did absolutely nothing to validate why I should care about it. I made it clear enough that the other people at the encounter realized I was going to shoot you. Stop trying to cause drama and this trial by forum nonsense.

If you wanna get into the rules, I can promise you now that an engagement doesn't end just because you think it should. If the other guy isn't shooting you because he's aware your single osprey can't dps enough to down his shield, its on you to realize that sitting still right next to the guy you've been torping is going to lead to your death.

TL;DR

Stop making baseless accusations, stop doing this trial by forum stunt of yours in every feedback you can find, and if everyone else in an encounter can read and see the rp, don't make yourself look stupid by claiming

I've sent the full, unedited, annotated logs to Laz.

You shot me without engagement messages three times. You might have had reasons for shooting at me, I've got no problem with that. But you need to telegraph what you're doing with RP. I was confused. First you were shooting, then you wern't, then you were, then you tried to insta me twice.

There were never any engagement messages. Your posted logs show that. To be clear, I'm not pulling rank with my character, I mention it because I want to RP with you guys, and I think you guys might be fun. Feedback isn't for laying down sick burns, it's for community self-evaluation. What I saw was bad conduct. An engagement started without RP, I fired defensively after trying to run twice, I stopped firing when Auxesia fired at me, who tried to press a truce, I tried to start RPing with your character because I wasn't sure what was going on or why, and then I blew up mid-sentence.

The situation needs to be unambiguous and clear. You need to state some in-character variation of "I am engaging" and who you're engaging. You never name-dropped my character, so I wasn't sure what was going on half the time. It's like if a Liberty Navy opened fire on another Liberty Navy without telegraphing the reasons why.

I came out of the encounter confused, and disappointed. I get you guys are distrustful of other AIs, but shooting people who want to talk to you without an engagement message? It's a bit borderline.

Some people don't know that engagement notice is not required. Only verbal roleplay and sufficient time between it is required.

I wasn't aware you were even talking to me. My character had literally just appeared and was immediately treated as a nuisance. If was interrupting some kind of pre-set event or encounter, either the Auxesians or yourself could have told me.

To me I thought "Oh, there's going to be some kind of re-integration RP as my character is seen as an outsider. That will be cool!"

BLAM.

Roleplay needs to be unambiguous when talking about PVP.

My character was communicating their worldview that Gammian sentinels are roughly cognitively equivalent. That's a long way from: "Let's start rootin' tootin' shootin' up this saloon".

I was halfway through elaborating on that statement when my snub got lit up by cruiser batteries.

Essentially I didn't have any wording out there which told me, unambiguously, that your character wanted to start a fight, or even viewed me as a hostile, which is a pre-requisite for having "time to react".

Here's an example of what could have worked:

tC-Nazara: *The Sentinel targets Ahura with its STEM batteries, its weapons charged, ready to fire.*

See, I didn't see anything like that, so I was still in "Oh cool, another AI, let's chat" mode when my shield and hull evaporated. Then you stopped firing and told me my weapons were ineffectual, you didn't move and try to leave the fight, so I assumed you engaging me was a mistake, so I stopped.
