Spawning NPC's could technically be made to work, there are two major problems however.
1)We dont want any one player to be able to win vs. anything, this would effectively do this.
2)It would cause major server lag, the server just couldnt support with a cap of over 80 players or so. Seeing as our cap is 200 and people want it to be raised yet, I dont think it would work to well.

I don't get it... Isn't that being more of a freighter than a repair ship? What do repair ships even do besides drop bots/bats? Seems kinda redundant tbh.
There are repairships and in future there might be a greater variety of them. They can deliver the bats and bots to the carrier between battles. Or what about freighters, which support a carrier or battleship by delivering needed materials to keep them operational.
Why not making all ships suffer damage without maintenance? As bigger the ship as greater the damage.
But i guess this would be too realistic for having fun for the most players, but it would be consistency.

This idea is for both lawful and unlawful sides to benefit from logistically, only House Militaries and Corporations have legitimate access to a repair ship in Sirius, the pirates have no such ship. That is why I included the Pirate transport into the equation.
Technically they are docking at a station that is wherever but the Carrier acts as a docking bay basically. When docked they can buy ammo etc. It's all done in FLHook so you can't undock while the carrier is in a jumphole etc etc.
You have your re-arming station there.
It's a simple and relatively painless method of achieving what you want and has been tested, used and is in use on many other mods out there. I know the version I used was fantastic, all based on Vanilla FL too so not much would need changing.
Before anyone says it, there are no issues with carriers logging off or moving or anything like that. They have all been solved. There are no issues that remain. Some people yell about lag but no one has done a proper test on large scales and most users of it have found no change in terms of lag.
So yes, you achieve what you want and the issues about NPCs and player interaction are solved.

There must be a reason why this ain't in place. I've seen this brought up a few times before.
You'd have to ask the Dev team but the only reason I was given was lag.
Yet when I used it we had around 30 odd people on a non-permanent server connection using it with no lag whatsoever. Large scale testing would be advisable though.
Mostly it seems that the idea is brought up and no official comment is given.
So basically, it gets ignored, at least publicly.
Good times, player ship docking, but I personally don't see it as all that great. It's a novel trick, but not particularly useful tactically or strategically. Sure, your carrier can pop out half a dozen player fighters, but those players have to sit there... in the dock, waiting. I can't think of any advantage, other than looking cool and maybe surprising the most inattentive of enemies with it. No point in docking other than repairs and ammo; better to just fly alongside the carrier.
