' Wrote:What does it take to be considerred a 'special' character? What do I have to do to get my own ship, my own ID, my own weapons, and my own zone of control? Mon'Star did it. Why can't I?
Now THAT is the question I've been asking myself for a year.
I think there are players that deserve their special ships and players that don't. I decide things on a case-by-case basis. I'm not opposed to unique ships on principle.
I think Dreygon's RP, as the first of its kind, really, that actually succeeded long-term, might have warranted a special ship. I think, as it is now, that the quality of writing and depth of character could be improved over when it was originally published, as the form of RPs like that has evolved somewhat and standards are higher; however, I see no reason for Drey NOT to have his special Battlecruiser, he's the prototype, and all the conceptual unique RPs have to look at him as an indicator.
Zapp, again, I think he's got a great RP going, some of the best this game has ever seen. Give him the ship.
The SCRA are an interesting case. They're not exclusive, per se. They're just hardasses bent on effing you up, and there is NOTHING wrong with that, in my book. Anybody can get in; they just have to put a LOT of effort into their application (Adrian may seem like an *******, and he is, but he's not part of an evil bias conspiracah:laugh:). I've thought about it, but I figure I'll wait for a day when I'm REALLY bored to put in the effort for an SCRA app.
Keepers are a similar situation to SCRA. The application process is harder and easier at the same time - it's different, because there's less forum involved (although that helps, the men in charge tell me), and more in-game, and it's probably harder - you don't just have to write a great post, know your Marx and hold your own against Blunt, you actually have to RP ingame, and RP hard. But, it's not impossible, and if you work at it you can get in. So, again, yeah, nomads are fine.
And that leaves the factions that both have no indies AND no application process - factions where there's no way to get in unless you know somebody. THOSE I am opposed to on principle. I used to run one (and paid a damn billion credits just for that right) and needless to say, 101st will never be like that again.

when i began i didn't know any of the admins. at the time of me getting the Necrosis the admins i did know after i got my terrorist id were either inactive or had left the server. only after getting the Necrosis have i gotten to know the admins....who weren't even admins when i first met them.
so yes, i've earned what i've gotten. it angers me that people would insinuate that i have done anything underhanded to get what i've gotten.
next time anyone wants to drag my name through the mud please back it up with evidence or i would ask that you keep it to yourself.
now then back to the subject at hand...
special characters add spice to the game, i'm not speaking about just Mon'Star. Darkstar was the epic nasty one when i first started. now Phate has garnished some well earned fame as well as the Tundra and a few others.
i feel that there should be rewards for RP, something to work toward.....goals to RP toward. without these special characters i think the gameplay would suffer.
it seems like, atleast from my side of the screen, that Mon'Star popping on scanners or entering a system adds a sizable injection of excitement. is that bad or good? to me i would think people want that.....they seem to anyway.

but hey....i've been wrong many times before.
Tried that and I was sent to Bastille for ID/ship inconsistency. Got another argument for the people who have been wronged?
"THE HULL HAS BEEN BREACHED AND THESCIENCEIS LEAKING OUT!"
Also, the SCRA don't care about story writing as much as we do about roleplaying. There's a big difference, the difference between novelist and actor.
Come into our recruitment with a brilliant story, but put words in the mouth of the recruiter instead of of playing your character, and yours alone, and you will fail.
After all, in game, you only play one ship at a time, right?
Something I wanted to say a long time ago but kept postponing. I guess now with my little to none activity around and nothing to worry about I can actually say that in open.
I think there is just a number of vocal players around who are deeply jealous of what others have archived whilst themselves haven't. Envious but careful enough to veil their envy in a thin layer of trash talks, bashing of others and all that useless junk. And so they keep complaining, like little children who want toys their friends have. And comes the never ending arguing and of course nearly everyone's favorite: the "fairness" subject. It's a nice argument, complaining about unfairness, despite that it's a more or less an abstract term varying much from one person to another, depending a lot on the personal interpretation. Here is the first news flash: life is unfair and that's a fact, if you haven't learned that yet I wonder how you do you do in real life. Wake up. Although I doubt those of you are that clueless, of course not, you know that quite well, just somehow you forget about that here, or more like deliberately doing so. Do you complain every now and then about how someone can make a painting while yourself can't draw a straight line even, someone who can play music while yourself can't even play a flea waltz, someone who can PvP great in Freelancer while yourself can't even hit a battleship in a bomber at zero point distance... that list can go on forever. So unfair that there there will always be someone who is more talented (and talentless) than you are. There will always be someone richer (and poorer) than you are. There will always be someone smarter (and stupider) than you are. Because we're all different and none of us is the same. But would someone of those complaining just say "Well, guess I didn't do anything to get that" or "guess I haven't put enough effort and didn't put enough time into that"? Of course not, that would kinda defeat the point of arguing and complaining in the first place! But it's easier to complain on the forums than actually doing something, isn't it? You want something? Here is the simple recipe: work for it. And here is the second news flash: life doesn't guarantee anything. It may work, it may not, well it's a risk to take. Risk and try. But sitting, doing nothing but complaining on the forums does what? That's right. It does nothing! Nothing it will archive, just like in life, you can verbally bash your government/boss/evil companies/friends/neighbors at your kitchen and what then? What's next? Nothing! So how about those of you complaining a lot get from your comfy forum rhetorical benches and actually start doing something for a change. Whether that'll work out remains to be seen, but at least there'll be something to start with. Otherwise all that complaining is like a cannon without powder.
I dont mind custom and exclusive ships, I do mind that they're made overpowered, SCRA ships arent overpowered so thats fine, Zapp can have his custom lib cruiser, but should it be a step above the normal cruiser? No, no way, it already has nomad cruiser turrets, which I'm going out on a limb and saying that they're already superior. It fuels an attitude I have empathy with, if you're faced with a ship you cant beat fairly 1v1, you gank it, and what do the people who get ganked do? They complain about getting ganked of course, hell, even go and request even more buffs to their ships.
Not to say im defending ganking, but its hard to attack it with the circumstances, why would anyone deny a few extra people's help because it'd make it slightly unfair? When them not helping makes it unfair in reverse.
Mon'star, scorpion gunboat, nomad ships, phantom ships, new cruiser with more guns or whatever was wanted, possible buffed wraths and chimaeras? they're all really not needed, anyone with sense will run away from a 1v1 with them, or request backup. With these ships also, you attract people who RP to get a PVP edge, is that really RP? Maybe, but is it RP for RP's sake or RP for pvp's sake? Did the story you write's ending get made to fit perfectly with that overpowered ship you wanted?
Not pointing fingers at anyone, but you'd not be very realistic to say that all RP thats made for these special ships was simply for RP.
Adding ships only one person is going to use is not a good idea. If that person stops that role-play then the ship is not being used. Ships for factions is good, I can see why people would want that, but for one person seems to be sparking abit of favouritism by giving them so much more (and my previous point of course).
[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.
' Wrote:Edit: also, Tomtomrawr, fappin' like a boss.
I have absolutely nothing against either.
Note that I don't think they should be overpowered beasts, but when it comes to rewarding people for the good work they do, I will be a loud supporter of it.
They deserve it, in any case. It's not like the ships are being dealt left and right, people. What's the big fuss? Do you not think that Dreygon has worked for years to get what he has? Don't you think that he does deserve what he has?
Zapp for instance, wrote enough RP all around to fit in a huge book, and is nothing short of great ingame as well, and you doubt that he's deserving of this.
Meh, people.
On that particular case, I don't think that the ship should be stronger than it would be for balancing sakes, but the getting it itself, of course. By all means.
As for faction ships.. Well people, did you *hear* anyone say that they'd be overpowered? Give me a break?
For example, if we were to make a Colonial Remnant version of the Nyx, all we'd do is add a Colonial Republic crest on it, maybe add some wing insignia, etc.
If say.. someone RPs a squadron of a navy. Their performance is really great, they contribute, why wouldn't they deserve a unique ship type with squadron insignia, and a customization here and there..
