Heh, I'm Irish in America as well. But you have to remember Turkish, those countries still exist. Were talking about a time when those countries have been gone for 800 years. You don't get too many people here in America claiming to be Byzantine or Khwarezmian. I'm sure that there are descendants of them out there, but the cultures are so long dead that we only know what we read about them. I think it would be similar in the Freelancer universe. Sure we would have history books talking about old Earth cultures, but no one would really know anything real and first hand about it.

Thats a good point Pipster.
There still remains the idea of a cultural revival, even if its all sensationalist nonsense cooked up by people looking for ways to define themselves from ordinary society.
In fact not only has 'old' culture disappeared, but Kusari itself has spawned new cultures such as the more distant GMG, the radical GC and Dragons, and the conservative Farmers and Hogosha (not to mention the giant Kiretsu with their own life employment and cultural programs).
Each has a history developed within the last 800 years of Sirius. Sure, some of these seem to fill out a north Asian stereotype - but there is great scope to go beyond the crass writing of the original game.
