A consensus that has come up about one year ago, the year before the consensus was that the current year is defined by the storyline.
Also, I have to correct myself after reading the announcements again, we are skipping 818 and starting in 819 most likely. Otherwise you can't really justify how the storyline tells about Gallia conquering Tau-31 in 818 while right now the emperor could still hold a parade there.

This is a question that seems to be asked every upcoming mod update, this question never comes alone instead it brings friends. I fully expect at least 5 other threads appearing before .86 asking the very same question and I fully expect the rise in my post count to reflect it. Don't get me wrong, it's a perfectly legitimate question and concerns about a player wipe is no small matter and I also hope my answer each time will be both correct and legit; No player wipe is planned during a mod update and I haven't heard of one accidently occuring during an update.
Auto updates only work for the mod that is active. In order to auto-update the upcoming 4.86 mod then the 4.85 mod has to be removed and 4.86 installed and active.
