For everybody to know: moving shetland to Cambridge would not delay the release. Completing New Anglia would, but moving the base wouldnt.
How on earth can you say that? I am not trying to provoke a reaction, I am stating the facts of the matter, which is that any work on the mod at this point delays the release. Moving bases around to different systems is actually not the easiest modding task, or so I have been told. Where did you get your information that what you are asking for will not hold up release of the mod in any way?
At the end of the day, the Devs (including myself) have to finish up the stuff that is on our lists and get it out the door. We dont need to be adding new tasks to the list.
' Wrote:Well I do not see anyone asking for Devs to complete the New Anglia system. We just want our base not to disappear.
It is not easy, maybe, but It is not nice to see people jump into the conclusion that OS&C are trying to delay the mod's release.
What I am saying is that if the devs do make this change, it will delay the release. Moving a base requires the code be done to move the base, the trade routes be changed, as well as checking surrounding bases to make sure no balance issues come up with the changes of commodity price and placement, then the location that the base is moved to needs to be tested, docking needs to be tested, NPC patrol paths need to be tested (probably the hardest, and will crash the server if not right) rumors and infocards for the need to be adjusted for the new system and location. System infocard needs to be adjusted.
This is a fair bit of work. That is work that would take the devs away from the work they are completing right now. This by default means that 4.86 will be delayed even further if the devs do this work.
So yes, what you are asking for is to delay 4.86.
Edit: And no, I am not trying to be a jerk, I am trying to show you how your request will delay the release of the mod.
' Wrote:Zelot, as a developer, what would you say the amount of time, in your experience, is required to "move" a base?
I have no idea, but I know that it is more than just flpping a few numbers in the code, it requires testing of NPC patrol paths and docking, and it requires the trade routes to be adjusted. How much time that takes, I don't know, but if I look at how long 4.85 development has taken, and try and estimate from that, I would think it takes about a month.

I wrote something much longer, but deleted it. Suffice to say that I can speak for myself when it comes to judging how much work is involved in handling trade routes. The fact is that the release is going to be waiting on trade route debugging already (as in, everyone else will be long finished and looking for diamond ore with Creepers on their tail) while I debug trade routes, and Shetland being stuck behind New Anglia is going to cause just as much work as moving it somewhere else will, because I am not going to leave the routes stuck behind a locked system. Moving it now won't delay me any further, because I won't even be starting debugging for several weeks.

So, Xoria from what I could read from your last post, that moving the Shetland is much more simplier then others may believe?
About gallia not letting it stay inside Edinburgh, I nearly fell over last night Dab. The Liner is on one side of the system where anyone barely goes. In roleplay Bretionia doesn't even know about the jump holes that gallia would use, thus have no clue where to search in the system to intercept gallic patrols. And I would ask you this, how are the bretonians getting in to Edinburgh. Firstly if it was the Jump gate from leeds there is more over 60 clicks at cruise speed just to get to the Shetland. In roleplay the frontline would be way past the Shetland. As the area it would fall under will be easily patrolled by gallics and extremely hard to even patrol by Bretonia. If the BAF are using the Dublin Jump hole to get to Edinurgh it also puts the Shetland out of the way of battles again. Lastly, I would find it impossible for a BAF patrol to be able to luanch an attack from the one remaining jump hole in the Edinburgh system due to the fact that to get a force through that way would weaken its right flank, Newcastle, and be very battered by the time they reached the jump hole to jump to Edinburgh, having to break blockade just to get there. In the totallity of it a battle happening around or near the shetland in its current position is by and all intents and purposes an impossible feat that the BAF will not be able to pull. Thus no reason why Gallia would say in roleplay that they need to evacute for safety reasons.
And my last comment makes me laugh to, I will explain. In lore the Liner gets attacked alot already by gaians, as well that it is in a weak position to get attacked by anything else, outcasts, nomads, etc etc etc. It is also a silly thing to do that were many stations are actually in warzones where the Shetland is not even in a warzone area.
All this is from reading the changes to bretoia and Gallia. Notable, Bretonia will not have any plausible base to operate from within in Edinburgh, by the fact that they evacute it, handing over to the Gallians on a silver plater per-say. So that in itself also shows it is inplausable for a battle ever taking place around or near planet gaia.
Lastly, it gives me reason to ask what will Gaians do, as there roleplay is then ripped apart by there being no base near gaia, nor any conceivable hunting parties, and such the trade of gaian wildlife are then taken away. To finialise this paragraph, gaians are no longer needed, as they have no thing to argue over.
Skullz, you answered your own question. Gallia has control over the area the Shetland used to inhabit. The Shetland is owned by a Libertonian company. A Sirian company. Considering Gallia is at war with Bretonia, is planning a war against Liberty, and dislikes Sirians going into their space without permission, that gives three very good reasons to kick that liner out. Lastly it is a warzone. 60 klicks isn't much distance at all. The entire Leeds system is a warzone in .85, all of Edinburgh will be in .86. Thus, at Planet Gaia, you are in the midst of a warzone, and will be kicked out.
If there is anything silly going on, it's the idea that a Luxury Liner would be permitted in a contested system by the invading force. Not to mention the fact that you won't make a single dime in tourism at Planet Gaia with the Gallic Royal Navy swarming all over the place. Tourists prefer to enjoy themselves, not get shot.
Their has been previous roleplay wiuth gallia and OSC alloewing them to access gallia and to export goods from gallia. Prehaps doping some research may think otherwise.
Secondly I have not answered my own question, are you this blind, I was responding to you in the matter of calling it a warzone, for the reason why it moved. Man can you ever even listen to yourself?
Quote:As for Why, Gallia isn't going to permit a civilian liner to be within a warzone.
And now this, christ, you really need a lesson in memory.
How will the BAF even get in to Edinburgh? And they do not have a base there either. Grow up making stupid things.
And about tourists getting shot, read up the OSC rumours, will show you otherwise.
