Ground forces are deployed from the air to an LZ very close to the target (no further than 10km, unless the target is rather large or has immense ground defenses)
Battle continues on land until target has been captured/destroyed
This is assuming the target has a shield to protect from orbital bombardment.
Is it Possible to add features like conquer or capture the planets and bases ,stations or can we land our Battleships holding marines and tanks ,armored transports to capture that Plant ,base, statiön:cool:
btw where is the guy tytanis who was working on new engine and on features like this?
We have determined that Military vehicles (based on the amount that fit into a barge and the size of the barge) are between Baneblade and Warlord titan size....
See space marine game for how ground battles go IMHO.
Pretty much like present-day wars: air superiority -> dominating battlefield, but with space instead of air. However, nothing short of planet-scaled genocide can stop the guerilla fighters.
Thus, I believe, in FL they actually don't fight for populated areas. Wars are limited to capturing resources, industrial facilities, spaceports and such. With high-tech there are virtually no limits in mass transit capacity, probably industrial areas are long way from towns.

I'm sure someone will develop a weapon that can kill anything on a planet from orbit with concentrated bursts of radiation, leaving any structures and resources untouched.
-Orbital battle.
-Air and ground combat happens maybe in the same time. They drop their troopers on a relative safe place, and on another place they draw the attention of the air fleet.
But if they don't want to counquer the planet and they're only want to neutralise any further threat what may can come from the surface then it's much more simple:
-Orbital battle.
-Heavy orbital bombardment to neutralise everything on the surface.
But i think it depends on the nation who's want to attack the said planet.
Kusari maybe use the: "There is no turning back now." style, and they fight until they're completely get the planet or all of their men are dead.
Rheinland: They move in with a massive fleet and take out everyone as fast as they can, if they can't take over a station within a short time then they just blow it in to pieces. Then orbital bombardment to the planet, and after that they're send down everything they got (walkers, tanks, and all kind of gound troops) to take over the whole planet.
Liberty: (LOLDread gank fleet TROLOLOLOL) In space they're maybe use something bit similar what Rheinland is doing, but they do it much faster and they don't start to take out every ship insted they go for the stations first to gain the upper hand. On planetary fight, no heavy bombardment, they use that only agains heavily fortifyed military hotspots. Then they send down many small but well trained teams to take out or take over strategic places.
Bretonia: They maybe use some guerilla style, with a part of their space fleet they draw the attention of the orbital defences and on the other side of the planet they send down dropships with marines and light military vehicles. Those guys go and take over the orbital defences on the planet and reprogram them to attack the ships defending the planet. This'll help to take over the orbital control. They don't do orbital bombardment or only when it's really needed and possibly those weapons do damage in a smaller area then the others but they're more precise, to be sure they hit what they have to hit.
I'd think of it in a Similar way to Mass Effect. There are colonial forces and automated defenses on the ground, but Air and Space superiority is everything, once the space around a planet has been secured and invading force has the power to completely cut off ground forces from any form of resources and relegates said ground forces to a form of guerilla warfare.
