Diamonds, while useful, don't have that many applications in ship design. Crap can be melted and recycled, to be reused in constructing wel.... anything really.
With Diamonds you can buy better metals.
Bretonia sends gold ore to Liberty, Liberty gives them weapons and vehicles

You don't see there's an issue with peddling something one system across, with one of the two systems being a friendly guard system, and making 60M an hour without any risk whatsoever?
It's an exploit that got fixed. Nothing more nothing less. You want profits, go mine premium scrap, that's what that commodity is there for.
Oh, and Diamonds, apart from aestethic purposes, are used in cutting and drilling tools, primarily for mining. They also have some uses in microcircuitry, but that's marginal.

1/ cannot "mine" premium scrap. It is for sale only as trade comodity.
2/ Have no problem they dropped price really at the smelter, but they dropped it everywhere. I used to mine in NL, and transport to Gamma for 3400 per. Not close, but worth it.
3/ Premium scrap was busted according to xoria, so he disabled it. Have not looked yet today so may be back for sale.
I am just upset best price in 4.85 was dropped a year ago. Now they dropped it again in 4.86. How about we start dropping all the other ore prices, and see if they get upset? Exactly. Lets just keep nailing the junkers instead. After all, we got all the best BS's....nope, well the best cruisers....nope....well our snub craft just gank....nope do not have that either. All we got is scrap, and that is slowing going away to. Give us atleast one decent reason to be junkers other then the RP.
Risk and Time vs. Reward, as AD said. Selling Beryllium ore in Gallia makes ~54mill for 5000 units of the ore, but you have to mine it in Tau-23 and sell it in Maine. Outcasts have a base in Tau-23, and are often very active in it. Their home system is two systems away. That's risk.
In addition to Tau-23, you must traverse Orkney, Languedoc, Burgundy, Ile-de-France, and then part of Maine. Of course, GMS is friendly to all of those systems, but pirates and hostile NPCs could always potentially make an appearance. That's time (traveling the systems themselves) and risk (the things that could kill you). In return for dealing with those things, you receive a reward.
Now, if you mine scrap in Texas and sell it in Puerto Rico has low risk and time needed to perform. You're a Junker, obviously. Junkers are quasi-lawful in Liberty. You're in a remote scrap field with no cops, few if any pirates, and you're not performing any action that might anger either of those if they came along. There's no risk.
Then your travel distance is across the back side of Texas, from the Pequena Negra/whatever to the Puerto Rico jump hole. A five minute cruise with a whole lot of nothing in your way. Then you pop into Puerto Rico (a friendly guard system with no opposition whatsoever) and dock on a base that's another 20k or so away. That's not very much time or risk.
You can't possibly have expected such ridiculously high prices to have remained for long. If we had a trade route like that, everyone would do it and we'd have a massive swarm of pirates and traders/scrap miners between two systems, which would defeat the point of even having the rest of the mod.
Then the pirates would start jacking up their prices because you're making so much money. You'd cry about them asking 10mil from you when you make, say, 30mil in one run. Nobody wants that. Not the admins, not the devs, not the players; nobody.

Right. So me assigning that commodity to several fields with the explicit intent to have it be the primary moneymaker for junker mining - and "standard" scrap just a nice RP gimmick for junkers while they're hanging around their bases, isn't getting through? "Premium Scrap" is minable only - it isn't sold anywhere, and Xoria doesn't set the prices for it. As a commodity purely part of the mining system, I do. See the mining guide for details.
I'll repeat it one more time. Premium Scrap is the moneymaker. Scrap Metal is a RP commodity that offers marginal profit.
Quote:2/ Have no problem they dropped price really at the smelter, but they dropped it everywhere. I used to mine in NL, and transport to Gamma for 3400 per. Not close, but worth it.
That run should now be with Premium Scrap, and makes slightly more. Mineable at Southampton (southwest part of the field, look for the subzone), north of Yanagi, and various fields in Texas (also, look for subzones deeper inside the existing scrapzones).

Since the fix is already in the mod - and has been since launch - I suggest you get your butt out into one of the premium scrap fields and start shooting rocks.:P

Diamonds can be manufactured for these purposes. Real diamonds are only expensive because of the DeBiers monopoly.

It's 'De Beers'. And don't worry too much, De Beers is tanking as a business. If The Oppenheimers' selling their rather large stake in the company wasn't a tell sign, nothing is.
Back to scrap, my only problem with selling the scrap for more at Beaumont than Culebra is that it makes no RP sense whatsoever. One is a base and the other is a smelter, the scrap needs to get to the smelter to be smelted and be turned into manifolds, therefore they would have to transport it from Beaumont anyway. They wouldn't do that if they have to buy it for 1900 Sirian credits at Beaumont and sell it at Culebra for less. Other than that, if Premium Scrap is now working properly, it now fits in with a couple new trade routes with some possible RP benefits in future.
The discussion there stemmed from the Junkers wanting to RP delivering scrap to various locations. Not something to get rich off of, but still viable/fun to do.
As for standard scrap, the current pricenerf was more an exploit fix then the final revision of it. I'll try and get with Xoria to work something out. This is low priority however.
