Considering the response he got simply by raising the problems (that anyone else can also easily notice) with the way the base was named for discussion, I can very easily imagine the kind of response someone would get for blowing it up. Many of the people here are giving credence to his concerns.
While I don't think the intention was for the base to be named in a way to prevent others from shooting it, I do think that the owners should have abstained from doing so based on the concerns raised here. While you say it's nothing but an RP base, the way it's named has the potential to very easily cause a disruption in the gameplay of others who might have legitimate reasons to go after a TAZ/Zoner base.
In my honest opinion, creating a situation of controversy and disruption does Doug a disservice, not an honor.

Ditto.
Creates a moral dilemna for people playing a simple game who maybe don't wish to overthink their acts and their implications on a 2003 space shooter with lots of pewpew and kaboom where the only reason things have HP bars is to be destroyed.

The fact that this is a disruption at all is shameful. We didn't cause it or ask for it. We never once thought we were making a name to emotionally blackmail anyone.
Sometimes it's assumed that people will act like grown-ups. Jokes on me then eh?
And to think that we shouldn't have done it for the benefit of people who quite frankly need to mind their business and just RP as they should...nope, not buying it. I have had the pleasure of knowing Doug for quite some time and there are many people in our group who knew him more than anyone. Not one of them was concerned or against this in any way said here. I tend to think that people who make these issues in the first place are quite frankly, busybodies who get a high from arguing morality in an attempt to come across as sophisticated.
I can say with certainty that if we lost that base to whatever reason, we would be upset but not for the...INSULTING reasons stated here. Just because we lost a base we have been working hard on.

People link the name to a person, OORP.
IRP, it's just another stinking Zoner.
Their characters might not like feel like dicks for blowing up such a station, IRP.
The player behind who had fun with said person may feel like a dick, OORP.
Psychology, you mean. So in other words, you simply use the name of something people would not dare to touch or harm.

And since this thread is about arguing for the sake of it, i'm gone.
23's.
Raising an actual, tangible moral dilemna is not 'arguing for the sake of it'.
The thing is, I have found out, that in order to actually take down the base in question, it will have to be a concerted effort by a number of players if it is going to happen quickly.
From what I have read here and there on the forums, it is possible for a single ship to do the job..... if they don't mind having a big powerful ship sitting doing nothing but firing at said base for 10+ minutes.
I've also been led to understand that if the base is well supplied (and I'm betting this one is), it becomes even more difficult to destroy, due to self repair.
Add to that the fact that I can see defenses being put in place as rapidly as possible due to this thread and the difficulty level raises again.
Personally, I don't see why anyone would want to destroy this base, except for 'bragging rights', but you wouldn't want to brag that you had taken part in the destruction, that would be asking for a KOS listing or more probably 'friends of the TAZ' placing bounties and/or doing 'revenge' (inRP) attacks on known participants.
To the [TAZ]: If you need certain items transported to your station, I would be happy to oblige. Shoot me a PM if you are interested, I'm not going to make my transports a target by mentioning names here.
@everyone, read Mals siggy in my previous post, it'll make you think.
