Possible solution for battleship ramming and spinning

I like it. Although we shouldn't use such a high factor. maybe something like 75 or 50. would be annoying to loose shielding in PVP if you accidentally ram a rock or a player =/

Worse would be losing hull as the little space debris hit you. Can we make those do no damage? And can we make NPCs take collision damage? Seriously, I swear they aim for you...

Ahm... NPCs DO take damage... The same ammount you do.

I just tested it on 50 and 75. 50 is too low since it takes about 3 sec contact at full thruster speed to get NPC
fighter te explode on player cap. But 75 is perfect and i think its enough for fighter vs. fighter fights.

And the point of this is to make crashes catastrophical, just like in real life. Go take a speedboat and ram it into tanker. Tanker wont be scratched but speedboat will be no more...

The idea is to explode or get huge damage when you ram a player at 400kph, not to 'lose shields'.

And those little looting rocks do no damage at all, but asteroids do. And the faster your moving when you hit something, the more damage you get.

Modelling Real life perfectly aint the issue

Playability needs to be maintained.

In a long dogfight, ramming each other happens a lot.

If the factor is increased too much, noone will ever die from weps in a fight, but from collisions

Heh i dont know about you, but to me a 30min 1on1 fight is a bit too much...

This will shorten PvPs a bit and leave more time for RP.

now, that solution only addresses half the issue - if we take the example of the speedboat and the tanker... the most important thing is that the tanker won t even rock form the impact. - crashing into a battleship will still spin it around, - mind you, it only spins it one time, cause there is no more fighter left for a second time of course - but still, the big ship spins around.

having a crash being catastrophic is a good thing - unless we think of ships in FL to be some sort of stationary relative to the enviroment all the time - meaning that the shield simply bounces them around, but the pilot inside won t feel any gravitational effect whatsoever... .

making a crash catastrophic addresses the one rule about not flying into a warship on purpose - as a matter of fact, that rule could allmost be deleted then, - ramming into a warship might still exploit the engine, but at least it ends to the very disadvantage of the fighterpilot.

but what can ( if anything ) be done about the spinning as such? - if there can be done anything at all..... .

ps.: do minable pebbles damage the ships? - cause the little asteroid field in kyushu that consists entirely out of pebbles, but tons of them, could then destroy a trespasser easily ( the autopilot does not attempt to evade them )

Well its spins around but only 10-30 degrees max. And about the rule, what diference would it make,
everyone rams capships now also. Only this way theyd have to pay it immediatly, so think of it as AI
admin or something...

imo - its very well worth a trial run, - i d ask igiss to test it with the next update.... and we must monitor the balance from bombers to capital ships. - i know they bump into capital ships quite often now, when they make a strafing run - and thats most certainly not "fair".... but with collision damage being upped ( to a positively more realistic level ) - whole tactics might have to change. ( not a bad thing )

i d hope that igiss considers it and allows a broader testrun of that idea.

In a long PvP as said before, this may undermine the competition. Think of it this way:
A gunboat has full shields/hull and a group of fighters appear. They all just charge by either thrusting or cruising into the Gunboat and rip it apart.

I know the fighters would get reported, but what if they didn't get the chance to take screen shots or the fighters leave before the GB player can look at the chat screen and find out their names again in case they forget.

This is open to abuse. I am sure the trial-by-forum would sky rocket and admins would be even more touchy about it.

EDIT: But I like this idea overall, if the abuse doesn't happen.
