A certain line from the opening credits springs to mine: "We'd been fighting for so long that no-one could remember why it all began" (or words to that effect).

As far as I could tell from vanilla rumours (before I came to Disco), it started from turf war. Then they'll likely have worked out the Hispania connection, and it would have escalated with "You crippled the Hispania!" accusations. Even if they found out it was the Coalition later on, there's still the hate from the war and now false accusations from both sides.

Remember that this is Disco, where Gallia spent 800 years plotting revenge on Bretonia and Liberty. Old grudges seem to be the flavour of the century.

interesting stuff. there is a few things that I got from the game though. I would think that the outcasts would be the ones to feel bad not the corsairs because apparently the corsairs left themselves.

but as for what I know about it. according to the game the war between the outcasts and corsairs is mostly completely impersonal in every way. as was said it is basically a turf war as the two factions come into contact via the sigmas and also in original freelancer via the connection in the omicrons from alpha to theta.

according to rumours and such some of the sleeper woke when the ship's diagnostics decided that maintenance needed to be performed or something. one group wanted to stay on the ship and continue while another group to decided to leave to planet crete.

it is really speculation from there. you would think that it is possible some resentment formed between the two factions as on the one side you have the outcasts who feel that they might have fared better if corsairs hadn't gone off to their planet. likewise, the corsairs might consider the outcasts to have abandoned them just like the outcast.

there is also just professional respect between the two. in the game, the two factions are skill-wise far beyond the rest of the houses due to their unique traits and no doubt they probably consider eachother their greatest enemy. it could also be that each think the other as imposters or poor impersonators and want to be themselves the real hispania. but according to the game there is no such personal element to anything.

some time ago I explored Rousillon. Impressive. Particularly the music on the planet that was a nice surprise.
so I recently started exploring Omega-55. LOL... NOMADS. LOTS AND LOTS OF NOMADS. SHOOTING THINGS. I GOT THE HELL OUT OF THERE. (and I was thinking, jeez I can't remember what that one was from the news. I hope I don't run into a nomad system)
recently started exploring Omega-41. what did you guys do to the star? that new effect there, that's impressive.

This. It's basically an escalated turf war - initially over control of the Sigmas and the passages into Kusari and Rheinland from there, but the mutual hatred grew through propaganda, and now the 2 nations indoctrinate their young with the idea that their enemy is vicious and to be hated, thus perpetuating the conflict. From a gameplay standpoint, this is good - gives OC and Sair some extra peeps to pew.

Besides, look at the current in game situations - no war, not even rare minor conflicts.
OCs are bothered with their gringos in taus, we - in omegas and omicrons.
Lore should follow, represent things that happened in one iRP year (version period).
If in .86 there is no epic clashes between them wouldn't it mean that in .87 lore those houses are not going to be FORCED to fight?
Unfriendly and so on - sure. But why not to stop forcing people, who are not used to dig deep in roleplay to keep that hate attitude?
Let's make it at least as warm as BHG - Hessian raid relationships?

Also, don't mind me forgetting to switch characters, please.

You can't really base lore off of in-game activity and actions. If we did, Bretonia and its allies would have fought off Gallia long ago, Rheinland and Liberty would be at peace, and the Hessians would have over-ran more than just Dresden by now.

This is the thing about Corsair\Outcast RP that often infuriates the hell outta me.

Hispania is supposed to be a collection of Spain, Italy, and the Mediterranean.

Not Mexico, and certainly not American Latino Gang Culture.

If anything, that garbage (the gang stuff) was on the Liberty, if it was there at all.
