For traveling and exploring you can always go zoner or junker ID - and even then you can rp as a robot. Still if you are set on capitol vessels you run into troubles almost everywhere, so why not a gunboat, transport or freighter if you don't like fightercraft?
I guess I like the idea of a larger ship like a cruiser or battlship. I had a gunship at one point and found it too small, I want something a little larger and with a little larger kick I think. I realize it's intrusive in home space but I think I might give it a try. Try to role play it as good as possible. Going to have to read up on all their stuff first though. So I can do this right.

I might sound harsh but this thread looks to me like: "I want a cruiser to shoot anything I want. What!? I have to RP? And I can shoot only in some systems? OMG! AI is useless."
1 - AI are not humans
2 - Fining/Pirating AI is pretty much OORP
3 - A's fully sentient ones do not use credits
This is the issue with pirates/lawfulls.
Can you pleae give an ingame example on how you Rp your cruiser? I just do like to know because by your forum posts, it seems your to much human like.
Im going to play a Self aware AI that wishes to expand it's knowledge base, through exploration. I feel that sounds perfectly logical as an explanation since it machines often go the route of finding knowledge and new technology in a lot of sci-fi lor. Im going to work out more details and elaborate on my story further though just haven't got that far.
I guess I would aprouch it some what like this though . Say I was in texas or a similar system and get stopped by the military I would tell them I'm not a threat and explain to them my ideas for obtaining more information about the universe and the places and things within it. Knowledge will be my main concern as a machine and expanding it till it is no longer possible to expand it any further.
Being the owner of an AI cruiser myself ( and my little drone <3 ) i feel i have something to say on this matter. AI can be interpreted in different ways.
1: a fully sentient machine that has its own agenda
2: a machine made by humans to do a certain task with limited self thought ( think u.s.a drones )
3: a fully human controlled machine that carries out mundane tasks allowing the pilot free to concentrate on piloting
4: any other clever RP idea somone may come up with
They used to be played as "humans must die !!! pew pew" so i can see why the change in Id was done.
I can only give you my RP interpretation of the AI that i use. Anna works for IMG but has her own agenda hence she is a freelancer under IMG employ for security purposes.
Anna uses an AI cruiser that has been converted to take her as a pilot onboard the ship, The AI still functions and she can "give" it controll of things like navigation and fire controll.
Being based in Tau23 the ship rarely leaves that system ( when it does its usually to Gammu to get repair parts etc.)
I rp the ship AS anna so i take part in anti cap IMG defence and i roleplay the hell out of the ship ( even sometimes sat on my own talking to java ) ( sad but true sue me im a rper ). So i suppose it depends on the purpose for having the ship in the first place and what your going to be using it for. I wouldnt recomend using the cruiser in house space most cops will just call up caps or bombers and rip you a new one unless you have a damn good reason for being there.
hope this gives some idea of how an AI can be played without being a "I AM TOASTER OF DEATH PHEAR MEE!! "
I have many enemies in the dark. So i stand in the light so i can see them..

Ya This is kind of what I'd like to go for but if this isn't possible what I stated in the lat post might be the way I approach traveling through certain systems.
Wanna play AI char? Good. here is some tips:
-First, dont hunt Corsairs cuz ''they pirating civilians''. AIs dont care about what humans do to other humans
-Secound, dont end up alliying with Core players. BHG Core dont likes AIs as well. Officials attacked me countless times, and NO corsair official ever did harm to my AI.
-Third, dont fly Cruiser in house space. local piloce/nacy will attack you. most likely... or just say to gtfo from House space
-Again, dont attack Corsairs. Stupid to attack someone who have capital system right next to yours.
-Threat Nomads as combat targets, recearch material, neutral party or someone who you want to annihilate from Sirius for good. but pls, dont act like they own you or infested u. Only roots that they owns - Wild Gunboats - Scorpions.
-Once more - dont be agressive to Corsaris. Try to get bisness with artifacts instead. I had lots of fun with it.
-Dont be powertrader. Means dont be Zoner made AI to mining and selling Ore to Houses. doesnt makes sense with AI ID. Use Zoner ID for that. you can RP as robot with ANY ID out there.
-Dont act like police-bot. AIs is not bounty hunters either. Be recearcher or trader, harvester or war-drone, or even robot that want to learn what love or rest of emotions of human is. did that, its funny.
-And finally - DONT HUNT CORSAIRS!!! or Ill HUNT YOU DOWN WITH MY RONALDO!!! serious... dont.
