McNeo is 100% correct. It's your own fault if you get mined, for the most part. It requires skill to use effectively. If the attacker kills you without skill, maybe you don't have much skill either.
' Wrote:If said pilot cannot use said weapons, he should have several counters prepared for each and should be ready to combine them when he needs them. Its okay to rely completely on guns, as long as you know how to counter everything else. The key to battlefield success is versatility... not specialism, especially when going solo.
Nooblet, I too have an all gun layout, could you explain to me why its cheap? Or is it just for the reasons stated already?
Good man. Fight with guns. All these flying explosives cause lag. Lag is killing the server. And you are all not helping. Use guns.
Well, in my opinion, being a mine user as well, mine spamming, which is the same as abusing them, is not a gentlemanly way to fight.
The tactic I find useful to use mines with, is to get his shields down before you even launch a mine. When you're jousting with the opponent, get a few shots in from afar, then, as he get's to within 500m, boost your way into his path, and drop a mine, then quickly speed away. I find that this works alot, especially if combined with missiles.
It's because of this technique, that many have been calling me a mine spammer. Well, I am not. You just have to know how to use your ordnance.
Oh, yeah, on the mine ramming topic; That's for wimps who don't know how to fight, that all they can think of is ram another player head on releasing a mine. C'mon, there are more valiant ways to destroy an opponent.
Well you can also use the mines the enemy drops to your advantage... I've chased someone on more than one ocassions up on his mine. When he starts droping mines, just evade, Don't get hit, throw a cruise distruptor (train for best effect) and make him suffer...
Being on the giving hand is much better thou.. fighting for 10 minutes, wearing your enemy down, and then poping 2 mines out, when he's badly damaged... if you catch him offguard, you've won.

Mines are just another weapon in your arsenal. To ignore them would be niave at best. I have fought many times, both in Alpha and Gamma. Most of the pilots are competant enough to know how to deal with mines. The art is in the timing. I agree that ramming and then mining is a no-no but sometimes it does happen. Most decent fighter pilots don't want to ram anyway. There is a knack to using them, as there is to torps. Just spamming will result in your death pretty often by some pilot with a CD. They can be used to get you out of a tight spot, or for the final kill. The tactic is in when you use them, or more to the point, how not to get hit by them. Missiles are another tactic. Some pilots don't know how to deal with these either.
It's all a learning curve. When you go invade a system, you don't know what 'they' have equiped their ships with. You have to be ready for anything.
That includes mines, torps, missiles or an all gun load out.
I've seen people who, when they find their target uses mines, they turn/strafe away early to avoid them. It really is as simple as that.
You have to find the right tactic for the fight you are in at the time, against the enemy you are currently facing.
The idea is to beat him with the means you have at your disposal. That includes all weapons you can mount.
