So, I just played through the SP campaign

This here really confuses me in Disco.

Why did the Order turn to the Corsairs and abandon there evident relations with the outcasts?

Outcast allies:
Blood Dragons
Golden C.
Liberty Rogues
Lane Hackers
Mollies
Red Hessians

Corsair allies:
Hoshaga
Gaians
Farmers Alliance
The Order

Need I say more? The Order is the only one of the Corsairs allies that has a reasonable player population. Although it may not have been intentional, now it's about balance.

I heard that you can run straight to the planet and avoid that nasty encounter. Never tried it myself however.

You can.

The rest of the campaign was so easy I was let down. I went back and killed the Nomad ships in earnest.
