''Are you personally for or against Slavery?'' he paused for a second considering what he knew about societies that employed slavery in the past and continued ''I suppose a good question ask before hand is; is slavery an important aspect of the Maltese economy and or culture? As one can see, slavery isn't a part of Bretonian culture so we view it with no small amount of stigma, that said if it happens elsewhere then we do need to know why.''
This question made her think longer than all previous, this was something she did not expect to come up. "You can call them a part of culture, you can call it a 'cultural import' of some sort. We bring foreign people and things on our planet and we are naturally getting influenced by it." Enma is making another sip of orange juice before reply on the second part.
"As for my personal point of view." She paused. "It is actually personal, I speak completely for myself and not going to say something about it's impact on economy for example. It's completely out of my competance and we had other people in Council who were experts on that. I don't own slaves and never did, same goes for my family. Of course we had and have a number of servants and depended people, but it was based on personal contacts and live economical relationships. I don't find slavery necessary for myself, but I won't go against that when it comes to other families."
He sat there for a moment with a blank expression. ''Surely you would be morally, if not Ethically, bound to say something if you don't agree with it, wouldn't you? I mean, yes you didn't own slaves, but I don't understand how you can be quite so indifferent to it.''
Enma ginned and barealy held a laughter. "You know what's the most funny thing about it? People tend to call me a traitor, infectee, literally best friend of the lord of darkness, devil himself. And then I hear a question about morals and ethics. You see, my words value something and usually tied with some actions. There's no point of talking for the sake of taking, I can't see any serious actions be taken about this for coming decades."
He strongly suspected that he'd upset her and leaned forward to give her his full attention and gave her a warm, apologetic look ''I haven't called you infected, or a traitor though have I?'' he smiled at her ''And even if you were those things, you would, no doubt, have reasons for why you did what you did. You are the master of your own fate and I see no reason why anyone elses thoughts, mine included, should stop you from doing what you wish. That said, I do ask about your personal thoughts regarding these things because I want to know. I did not mean any offence if It has been given.''
''Eliza Valdez?'' he said with no small amount of curiosity, knowing of her through a few reports but nothing hugely important ''Who is she....to you?''
''Is that...as lovers?'' he asked in a slightly kinder tone. Homosexuality was not uncommon in the modern day and age, yet scott knew well that some still got highly defensive about the topic. ''It is no business of mine, but..just out of general curiosity and all. I assume not many people know about this so, I can turn off the recording if you wish.''
"Is that as lovers? Yes." She moved empty glass a bit to the side, kinda asking for more juice. "I'm glad I can say that openly now, it was impossible on Malta due to various reasons, including her origin. She deserved to be the first lady, though. In fact I am here mainly because of our vacation, otherwise we would need to have an online interview."
