It was very small. That's probably why the upscale is this extreme. A quick comparison to the Guardian I did does make it look like it might've been a bit overdone.
I haven't looked at the stats but assuming it was somewhat balanced for its old size it's probably a bad ship now.
What I'd recommend is that you play around with the scale a little and see if you can find a size somewhere in-between the old and new that'd be "fair", then recommend that to whoever is currently in charge of balance. Maybe toy with some other stats until you find a spot where it'd have a niche but not overperform.
I'd personally suggest finding a size where the shield doesn't have to be as tight to conform to standards. It'd be far easier to balance if it wasn't some sort of weird exception to the rule in that regard.

It was the same size as the wyvern as was the Irezumi, both ships were fine in terms of size. What made them so strong was the fact that the shieldbubbles were skin tight. If they just took away the skin tight shieldbubbles, there would be no problem and both ships would be on the same page with all the others. The mass of both ships is compacted, not spread out, its very easy to hit both models with any type of weapon. Inability to hit the ship beyond the shieldbubble is a player issue, not a balance one.

Can't be overstated.

Both the Irezumi and the Iris need to be reverted back to their old sizes and the shieldbubbles fixed, that's all both of the ships need to satisfy everyone, be balanced, and preform well. Simple and easy.
Unfortunately in the discoverygc dev team, we can't do simple and easy.
Thanks for giving GC their own ship just to make it unusable the following patch. Way to take a giant turd on everyone involved from those who designed the model to GC players.
Otherwise, what Wesker has said.
Also, if you see penis in this you probably see penis in a pencil. That ship looks Kusarian while not being another slightly retouched copypaste of the existing models.

The Irezumi's new size looks fine. Comparing to the Wyvern when the Wyvern is Chimaera-sized with slight additions is probably skewing peoples' expectations. Compare it to Odin/Guardian and it looks pretty spot on now. Again, stats might not have been adjusted accordingly (I haven't looked).
The Iris is too large though. A 10% rescale or so wouldn't have hurt. It's better to stick to old standards and accept that the Wyvern is the odd one out, than to adopt new and even* smaller standards.
*) Considering Discovery's VHFs on average are much smaller than some OG VHFs like the Eagle and Sabre.
Also yes skintight bubbles are bad and make the ships substantially stronger than their models would otherwise suggest.
I've spoken to @Jaypate , @Megaera and @"NieRdackel" and have come up with a solution for this and possibly the Orchid too. I've taken the Orchid Body, cleaned it up, thickened it and added the current Iris wings. I'll finish the rough work and leave the details to Jay.
This should get rid of some of the issues regarding the balancing and the bland looking tube shape

And on the plus side, this could mean you get an Orchid, Iris and Blossom rework all in the next patch... Hopefully

It looks already better. It needs a bit love for details but I am sure it receives those. The body it is based on is the Orchid btw, Schwi. Textures do a lot too tbh. This is the rough work, unfinished too.
