Ya don't die immediately when you undock. The station is hostile and hurts but there is a big exclusion zone and you can sit at a good distance away from the station and not be shot at without running into the mines as well.

Put the currently non-used models in the exclusion zone as weapons platforms.
I'd get imprisoned just to see a Venator in Disco:P
