Hehe ... you remind me of a CarFax commercial. You know ... where the guy keeps asking the salesman for the CarFax and the salesman keeps changing the subject or rewording what the guy is saying. Anyway ... if the cop acts like a jerk and sends a CD at you because you look funny ... don't expect me to smile and say "hello friend."

While the rest of you make millions and get the all things you've ever wanted.
So what you're saying is you are self-appointed and self-anointed law enforcement? Where do you derive your "authority?"
' Wrote:When an LPI, KSP, BPA, or RFP stops you, it is (normally) extremely OORP to call them a lazy rent-a-cop to their face, and tell them to go munch on a donut. Congratulations, you just got your head bashed in with a nightstick and five-to-ten in prison. Yes things in space are a bit different than here in the real world, but here on earth you wouldn't think of insulting a police officer to his face. Or flashing your headlights and flooring it.
I dunno, it's just something that bothers me.
Cops aren't incompetent fools (most of the time). They belong to a highly-organized police force that has the man-power to respond to most pirate threats with overwhelming force. So, might wanna show a modicum of respect. I dunno. Always blows me away how the pirates call us 'pathetic' and whatnot.
Its hard to shake off a stereotype once its been taken from real life and embedded into a game. had the LPI when it first began not taken the route of being a stereotypical non-competent donut munching fat bastard of a police officer in the first place, I do like to think certain problems that are being faced now would never had arisen.
I'm not saying act like the military or anything, and I KNOW that the LPI have overhauled from last time when they took on the stereotypical role, since I was in the LPI for a very very short amount of time, but as I've already pointed out, real life stereotypes can be bitchen hard to shake off once applied to a game.
not everyone would insult a cop on earth, but there ARE those who would, and there ARE those who do it on a pretty regular basis. most of the time they face consequences, but for the rest of the time, there are none. it depends from place to place. take monk's post. in his locale, you insult a cop, expect you have your balls on a chopping board with a meat cleaver threatening them. in Quebec, you could piss on a cop's shoe and flick him the finger and have no action taken against you (according to one of the replies i read earlier).

Pirates mouthing off to police? That I can understand, what gets my goat is traders, some zoners, some (indie) corp, insulting and ignoring the police forces. Makes no sense to me if you're a trader, and have routes going through house space, why get on the wrong side of the local bobbies? Makes no sense to me at all.
Back when I was enforcing passenger licensing, out of ~10/12 traders, I had 3 pay. I eventually had to enlist help from the BAF to get the job done. Not right for (apparently) lawful traders to flout the law.
But yeah, pirates/terrorists/bad folks who insult the bobbies, no hassles with.
Like Jovial said, pirates, smugglers, terrorists, yes, that makes total and complete sense. Having just played through Singleplayer, traders, no, it simply makes none. The Police can do any number of mean things to you just because. And why is that? People respected the Police. If the Police said "Kensington Shipping Platform, this man's docking rights have been revoked." Kensington Shipping Platform would probably agree with the Police, not let the guy dock. But, the problem has already been outlined by Hawkings:
' Wrote:The problem of people not listening to the police is because police have no power. No, really, they don't. They can go from "talk to the guy" to "blow him up!" and nothing in between. You can't deny docking rights, you can't arrest the ship captain when he's on the ground, you can't restrict his right to buy/sell commodities, nothing. And since death is so cheap in this game, the police are pretty much out of luck unless they're dealing with a cooperative RPer, which is quite rare.
Unless someone really wants to RP, they don't really have to. They can just quickdock. Frankly, I hate quickdocking. I would really like to remove it from the mod. But, that is another story.
This is another pair of reasons why the "average joe" never listens:
You know how much damage a vanilla transport turret did maximum? 81 damage to hull, 40 to shield. That is less than a Lavablade Mk I. It's no wonder corporations and civilians feared the Police. Nowadays, unless you're disrupting lanes to check for contraband, good luck getting anyone to listen to anything with your Light Fighter. Oh, and lets remember that even if you do catch someone away from a base, 4 guns are enough to keep a transport shield down, right? You can easily apprehend criminals that way.
And this kind of disadvantage and thievery of my RP experience was what I signed up for when I joined the Police, right? It's just the way it is, right? Yeah, right....

I wouldn't expect anyone to. If I fire a cd at ya, its because you have done something wrong.
Should unlawfuls give the cops a hard time? yup, I expect it.
Traders that want the protection of the house police? I would think they would be a little more nicer... I mean you are always going to run into a grump. Not everyone gets up on the right side of the bunk every morning.
These are the same people who will pass bots and bats to people in a fight, then wonder why the cops wont help them when they get pirated.
Sometimes it is just a hoot to sit back and watch the comm channel when a trader that's been doing nothing but busting my chops get pirated........ Hmm, might be that old broken radio the LPI can't afford to replace.
Karma is a b***h, and so is In rp consequences.....
And for clarification, the Nazis were the most vile group of morons in my eyes. They killed, raped and tortured for fun. I see no one here doing it. To INSULT a group of people by comparing them to the Nazis is a low and cowardly act unfitting of another player. Rise above it and don't do it again.

Let me add my nitpick. In Liberty, anyone who is not a member of the Liberty Lawfuls is a guest. Even Liberty civilians are subservient to them. If they request something, something as basic as moving away from the tradelanes or continuing on your way, you don't blatantly refuse for no reason other than to irritate the law. You move along with a tip of the hat and a wave goodbye.
Go park your car across a road. Wait until a cop comes. When he asks you to move, spit in his face and say 'No'. I dare you. Send me a recording so I may lulz.
As for CD's, if you ain't doing anything wrong you've nothing to fear. It doesn't do you any damage and simply delays you for thirty seconds. Think of it as a random breath test, and quit trying to troll the lawfuls.
' Wrote:you mean when I get pulled over for speeding, I'm not supposed to spit on a donut and shove it in the cop's face? OHSHI...
you can do that and pull a cam right away start filming how he break your bones and so on, or present him with a certificate that indicates you are a mental patient in the local institute

Glad to hear that ... but most lawfuls here fire a CD and then determine if I've done something wrong. And just because I have a Pirate ID doesn't mean I'm guilty of piracy. Pirate ID says I can trade too ...:D... so make sure I've actually done something wrong. Cause most just see a Pirate ID and think its ok to just blow me up ... with or without evidence of wrong doing. I got cargo of food, water and/or medicine ... where do you see wrong doing?

Very few who get pulled over by the cops are in a good mood. Been on both sides of this in RL.

Fair enough ... but in RL ... you knew about a crime being committed and did not respond ... you're liable for whatever happens to the victim.

I don't know as though they did any of that for fun ... but they were brain washed and actually "believed" they were doing it for the best of their nation and race. As for name calling ... I'd say it goes both ways. I'm tired of people responding to me by calling me a "whiner" or "crying" or whatever. Calling me these things does not contribute to the discussion. So ... I promise not to call people Nazis if you guys promise to respond to WHAT I have to say rather than respond to WHO says it. In other words ... don't talk AT me ... talk TO me.
EDIT: I didn't actually call anyone a Nazi ... I called them the Gestapo ... slightly different. Perhaps the correct term would be "thought police."

I consider seeing someone with Pirate ID as in today's society, a cop doing a routine license plate check on a car. He runs the plate, and finds that the owner has a couple of warrants outstanding for something or other. Or he finds real quick that while there is nothing outstanding, the guy has a rap sheet a mile long. So while the person being pulled over may not be doing anything right then and there - he's got a history that follows him. THAT'S your Pirate ID - it's your history. And yes, the cop is perfectly in his rights to keep an eye on you, make sure that you're law abiding now. He wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't.
