Great news, been waiting for it for a long time.
I'm thinking of importing freelancer models into it, will need some time to learn how to do it though.
Now it doesn't fail on me. But downloads it corrupt every single time. Always some files are damaged on the ZIP / can't be accesed on the MSI. Dowloading three times the .ZIP i think i managed to get a full batch of correct files!
Just a little sneak peek preview of what's new in the current beta. There will be a patch released, I bet sooner than dsy4.86 ;)
- Support for multiple light sources
- Celestial background imagery (you can pick among different wavelengths)
- and more...
You can check that out yourself already and get the latest beta at Sourceforge. Don't expect addon vessels to work smoothly yet, they need to be recompiled against the patched version by their respective developers, once it's released.
August 31, 2010 - Patch 1 for Orbiter 2010 has been released! This patch fixes a few problems, but also introduces a number of exciting new features, such as local light sources and celestial background textures.
The patch or the entire installation package can be obtained from http://downloadorbitersim.com/ directly or via torrent download.
I know I am sad kid...when it comes to these sorts of things...but I wish to have pew pews on my ships I am downloading the 2010 as I type. It looks really exciting. I think I might mess around with the coding and maybe I can make something of a pew pew. Mainly cause I like realism in my space games and for my Gundam fetish this would be most epic to convert over...with pew pews.
Edit: Yeah....I would love to make a full simulator for this game. I have no room and even less money! xD
Edit: I don't see a online sort of engine. This would be a must need. As I wish to have LAN networking so that my bro can play too.
That's a great idea and actually there's a group working on integrating combat and damage simulation, there's also a download in Orbithangar.com that has a lasertank of some sort (not very realistic and I'm not sure it works with 2010) but it's a start.
There's also a HARP download which basically is a big gun that launches stuff into space, guess something like that could be a way to integrate missiles maybe even using a docking autopilot to simulate homing.
Edit: There's also a way to integrate several joysticks and buttons for a full simulator. And there was a project to make orbiter multiplayer but it's in closed beta right now(probably even dead or something)
