It doesn't strike me as a luxury passenger transport as some others have said, mainly due to the lack of windows all over the place, but I do see it as a very good 'mobile lab' of sorts.
I'd love to see a dedicated 'borderworlds-capable corporate research vessel', and I'd like to add my biased opinion that it would be great as a cryer research ship.
What does the engine area look like?
Some say that he's a CIA experiment that went wrong, and that he only eats cheese. All we know is that he's not The Stig - he's The Stig's American cousin.

I find it odd that some folks mistake the cargo-pods for passenger-room... I wonder how VIP's must feel in a tanker...
And no... this is definitely neither a passenger liner nor a research vessel. It's a container transport designed to slip through asteroid fields while it's cargopods are protected by the armor wings.
The big windows are there to make the living and working quarters comfortable enough, as this ship would travel around the Border and Edge Worlds, where landing on a planet where you can freely go and relax is somewhat... limited. Other parts are used for the crew (dining hall, kitchen, medical bay, food supplies, air and water tanks, recycling systems, etc.)
The engine part is sort of going to look similar to the Conference GB's engine: A single big exhaust shielded by two 'wings'.
I'm currently not happy with it at all... as so far I'm still experimenting with it. I'll definitely add the powerplants the Conference has tho.
It could work as a BWT replacement, given someone knows how to convert SketchUp's format (Collada *.dae or Google Earth *.kmz) into something usable by Freelancer
And as for those "Yet another Zoner vessel?!" comments... go spend your own free and unpaid time on designing a ship just for fun... or plain keep your porkholes shut
I was just saying, and having been a zoner, that it may fit in better elsewhere, or focus the concept/RP behind it further.
As Cryer and OSI are corporate partners, I believe you or Mr. Nichols were on the board of directors, would joint project be feasible? Cryer is rich enough to commission shiplines, currently they're forced to adapt current vessels to make them appropriate for liquid, sterile, and possibly frozen goods (thus climate control system/unusual shaped containers/dampers would be required). So it makes sense they'd want a vessel designed with their needs in mind, and when it comes to radiation/corona/other dangers in the edge worlds who better to ask than the Zoners.
I'm not saying make it ungeneric, I'm not saying that others can't buy it or use it from the Zoners. Keep it a Zoner vessel, however, a mention of how it suits our needs and was commissioned by us would be welcome, and support the reasoning why such a vessel would be necessary. Corporations are hugely undeveloped in this mod, whilst militaries, and in particular the zoners and IMG have romped away with a lot of power and bases. Can corporations get some bonuses?

The RP focus behind it is as already stated. A container transport able to roam around the Border and Edge Worlds with enough room for the crew, life support, etc. for long trips, while the cargopods can be replaced with new ones very fast, thus reducing the time needed to stay at any one station/planet to swap cargo.
Incase it would become a feasible BWT replacement/update, then perhaps an update to a shape inspired by both the old and new Conference Gunboat would be the origin.

I certainly ain't on Cryer's board of directors. No clue if Sam was when he still was playing.... doubt it tho. Same about being "corporate partners"... first time I hear something like that.

Well, should some experienced designer manage to make use of the model and implement it... well then why not?
I never intended for this to be a Zoner-Only ship, but a Zoner designed civilian ship, available to anyone... who can affort it :P
Zoners do make quite some money by selling assembled ships on their bases...
The exhaust looks okay... the 'fins' are still too big tho, and the rest (generator and connection to the middle segment) needs still some overhauling.
And made a fresh set of pictures to show the ship from all sides...
Well... finally had an idea for the engine compartment and the 'wings'. :yahoo:
The hinges for the armor plates covering the cargopods got some changes aswell.
' Wrote:looks excellent - i hope the skin / texture will look as good as the mesh.
have to agree. the mesh is really well done. also, while im guilty of not reading the entire thread, i will ask nonetheless- what textures do you plan on using on this model?
