Mercenaries need gunboats to fight gunboats with. Also rp wise their operational range is larger than bombers. Just because you dont want to align with a faction shouldent mean your options have to suck. This game is about fun for both sides.
Y'know that the general idea is that while Militaries can whip out the big armament, there are plenty of para-military forces that have interesting links to research etc.
It doesn't take much to get a spaceship into space in Freelancer, look at the Rogue/Molly gunboat. It's a heap of junk, strapped together. Yes with skill but still junk.
I imagine that if someone has the money, a ship company would be happy to make them a ship.
Simply make the gunboat a top end thing for a Merc to have.
' Wrote:Dead on linkus. Also, another idea could be a heavy transport. 4 gb guns 4 transport guns, med gb powerplant?
But small cargo space. It would be like a fortress-freighter.
Anyway mercenaries should pick a side and then for ships and weapons.A civilian gunboat wouldn't be the best I idea.
EDIT: Oh and this game isn't just about the fun and also about role-play
Trouble is thats whats happening now, but since so many get denied its almost impossible since RP wise nobody exept the zoners sells their ships open market, and even they are picky.
It looks like a civilian gunboat to me but I still don't why would the civilians need a warship
Well for me civilian is not just the people who are not evolving in war. We can think about open market ships, for mercenaries and all the others who need power to overcome other player and are not factionalized. Since i have a Mercenary character as an MM~ i already passed throught some problems, like "you are not allowed to use our ships and not allowed to use our weapons", if is a factionalized weapons, it makes sence, the faction guys can forbide you from using their stuff. This is why we need good civilians ships, like tha civilian talarca cruiser, and I go beyond civilians need decent weapons too!!!! not just the great debilitator, but something that can smash hulls. Open Market... guys!

"Article 50 in Chapter II: "Civilians and Civilian Population" of Protocol I Additional to the Geneva Conventions defines that a civilian is not a privileged combatant. Article 51 describes the protection that must be given to civilians (unless they are unprivileged combatants) and civilian populations. Chapter III of Protocol I regulates the targeting of civilian objects. Article 8(2)(b)(i) of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court also prohibits attacks directed against civilians."
That is a civilian! A civilian it's not a combatant and it shouldn't handle war ships and huge guns.In my point of view they should have some basic weapons for selfdefence, as for mercenaries I would like to see a special shipline for them.
EDIT:This is going too off-topic.The topic was that nice model that DartStriker made.
But you're ignoring an already present real world dynamic, "civilian" weapons and equipment that is sold with almost the sole intention of being military grade.
Inside of the states with enough money you can recreate a Marine grade sniper rifle from parts freely available. And as we can see, the future in Sirius is very capitalist, Liberty especially.
Do what Akura said and make it a generic military construct maybe.
