' Wrote:thing about the nomad ships is that they are biologies, not technology...
it would take some sort of surgury to pilot a nomad ship...maybe domestification....
each ship is an animal, having a brain...also, helps if you think about a nomad's cargo space as more of a stomach...imagine trying to feed something that big.....
In Battlestar Galactica: The Cylon fighters are living things, & yet Starbuck figured out how to fly one w/o having to 'Plug In' to it.
Back to my car analogy:
I cannot go into a car dealership & buy an anti-gravity upgrade for my Toyota, because anti-grav technology doesn't exist.
In FL'er terms...Nomad ships would not be available for purchase if it wasn't already a given that a conversion has already been achived.
yeah....but i find that really hard to believe...i mean, all living things have cavities... but they are generally filled with liquids....
also...the control mechanism for any musculature is so complicated, doing what starbuck did would be impossible....
you would definatly need sugury...either to the nomad, or the pilot, or both...which is what happened to taurvi.

I agree that it's unlikely...but, in the terms of the BSG episode, it was not only possible, it was done.
Again, I submit that a human flying a nomad ship IS possible simply because it's available for purchase.
if it were impossible, WHY is it there to buy?
I could RP that I had bacon for breakfast on Islay, & I would never have to take the time to mention that the bacon was cooked before I ate it.
If I bought a Nomad ship, I could easily RP a simple & plausable reason to fly it...I would never have to worry about RP'ing the tedium of HOW I fly it unless it progresses the story.
There is no docking on nomad bases, & no Nomad character skins, therefore, if there is a player in a nomad ship, they are human, & I can't look at my screen & say "well, that's just impossible." because it very obviously is possible.
The best explaination for that (to me) is: "It has already been converted." & that's why it's for sale.
:: PS- If Treewyrm can pull off playing a nomad, my hat's off to 'em ::
You see, there is even Marsflyer in Disco and you can buy it, yet it means nothing really, in fact it's a ship with a huge sticker "BAN ME!" all over it. Nomads on the other hand are the major part of the Freelancer universe, they play pivotal role in the game and even in Starlancer if we consider FL's extended intro as a canon (I assume it is canon).
So buying a ship means very little, there no is RP warranty to come with it, even pilot ID is no such warranty, you have to earn it yourself by creating the story for your character and keeping it within the context of the Freelancer universe as much as possible. And as far as it goes I don't see how a normal human can pilot these things, there was no evidence of such in original game. I even consider light fighter to be pilotless ship, but that's just me and some people may think the other way.
I don't consider the extended intro canon. It doesn't make sense.
If the Nomads could stealthily take out a whole system with one shot, why don't they do that in Freelancer? Plus, they would never be able to take the Coalition:P

Who knows, perhaps they did not know where the sleeper ships went, perhaps there is extensive delay between shots that thing can do. Too many questions and not enough answers. I consider it canon simply because I like it, but if someone says it's not I'm fine as well, neither of us owns the game and neither are from the FL's development team. That's where fanfic starts at and Disco much like any other "extended" mod out there is a fanfic, albeit one much closer to the spirit of the original game than the rest (and the reason why I like it that much).
I found him yesterday, in Omicron Alpha. First time he was with pirate ID and corsair tag. He dont shooted me. I logged out, and when I returned, he was still there, this time with outcast ID and corsair tag. I said to him in pvt to correct that. He said he was going to gamma to correct it and asked me to not report him. So he got the outcast tag shooting at corsairs.
In the BK server, nomad players were set by the admins. They were able to shoot at anything, including low level players. However, they had a permanent bounty of 15 million credits on their heads (payable by the admins), and were constantly harassed by other players.
Despite the fact that killed NPC nomad fighter drops nomad in space, i always considered nomad ships to be alive. That means that they don't have pilot in cockpit, they are pilots themselves. Living being in space. Not built machine with hard points for weapons. I consider nomad gun on nomad ship as arm on human. It is simply part on that live being. So in my eyes flying nomad ship with any other equipment, weapons and Id other then nomad ones is just wrong and against any logical RP.
Imagine that FL is played under water and we all had submarines, except few guys who go around traveling in dolphins. Not very logical is it?

Nomad ships are not dolphins.
But yes...I will always agree w/ anyone that nomad ships are alive.
now...I challenge ANYONE to explain to me how, when you fly to a station & buy a nomad ship...then fly to another station & dock while flying said ship, then enter the equipment shop (for example) & still see the same skin that represents your character that you had before you purchased the ship....
...How did your character get from A to B, if not from inside the Nomad?
YET AGAIN......... I humbly ask another way: If a nomad ship is unpilotable for a human...then WHY is it an option for purchase?
The answer (within RP) is simple:
The Nomad ships available for purchase have been modified for human use.
As to HOW it's modified is NOT an RP issue in my opinion.
As far as the people who are accused of "Nomading" out of RP...I personally don't care...Players like that will always come & go.
The point i'm trying to hammer is:
As long as there are only human player skins, & a nomad ship is available for purchase...then logically, within RP, that buyable ship must have already been altered in a fashion to accomodate human piloting...Otherwise, why would it be sold?
The answer to all your questions Marburg is the limits of the mod. I completely agree with what Doom is saying. However, Igiss does not have the time to make cutscenes of Nomads exiting their ships. The reason it's sold was to spur some RP, but that failed. It just hasn't been taken out.
I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.
RP Story (Still deciding whether or not to finish)
