Nooblet: Fletcher was commenting on Nighthawks question "Why do you need all this money?"

Good RP diversity comes with having a lot of choices in ships, factions, etc, and Fletcher was pointing out that the poor person with one ship does not always have the best RP experience.

To add to that: I have two factions I'm making as I said. One is on hold, the other I started last night. In this new one I will be funding Upholders for everyone who NEEDS it, so it will be very expensive. I also love roleplay in Capital ships, as well as large ships in general.

Understood.

Read the statement incorrectly, my mistake. Apologies.

Thank you for the explanation.

No problem at all.

But to number crunch; It costs 500million to get an official faction status, correct? It also costs 500 million (EDIT: Or was that 1 billion?) if you want a system for your faction.

If I wanted get these two factions official, I'd be looking at 1 billion. If I by chance was allowed a system for both of them, 2 billion.

At maybe enough patience to do the same route every day for about 50-75mil a day, let's say 60 average, I'd be looking at 33 and 1/3 day of trading at 60 mil every day.

I can barely do four days before going on to roleplay on real characters for a few weeks.

Since when do you need billions of credits to enjoy this game?

The economy is slow to stop people from jumping into their big ships right off the bat, so that they learn the game and how it's supposed to be played. Of course, it doesn't always work, but that's the reasoning I see behind things the way they are.

I never did the diamond/niobium run, never mined, ever, never pirated miners for all their cargo and sold it for maxiumum profit. Yet I've donated over 900 million credits to various factions and individuals, I have roughly 14 ships, two or three of them have Cheetah Thrusters, with two gunboats (one which was funded entirely through piracy). Lost roughly 300 million credits due to inactivity wipes, made/deleted countless other ships, and I am currently in the progress of getting my first Cruiser. I have enough money for it already, just need the approval.

Yet I have no problems obtaining money what so ever. So, what are all you people doing wrong?

We should leave the earnings as they are and reduce the Prices of everything except BSes and Cruisers by half. In fact we should double the BS prices

And make it cheaper for those who get caps via SRP

Blaze...
That would break the game.

Your idea has a flaw somewhere.
Find it.

Reduce everything by half?
Please No. Prices are fine as they are.

On Earnings, more smuggling routes would be a nice addition to add more variety.

Since 4.85 it seems.

So what about people who have been here for a considerable period of time already? (In fact, I think I asked Cawdor this, but he went silent.)

You do not have a problem, so obviously, no-one else has a problem. Makes sense.

I was going to say something, but I refrained from doing so. It took a lot of effort.

Gotta agree with Mag here, I have a job and a family, I can't spend hours and hours to trade, get hit by 5 Pirates with "10Mill R Dai" (Don't tell me they don't, because if you do I will show you a liar) and end up with nothing. Trading is bad, mining is worse. Yes, I understand the economy was nerfed to keep Tweedle-LOL and Tweedle-LOLER from getting cap ships. Doesn't seem to have stopped them. In fact, I would say it encouraged them to become pirates...And end up with caps anyways.

I think almost everyone agrees that it is much harder to make money in this current economy. My trader runs a route making about 17 mil an hour with 3800 cargo capacity. I get pirated on average, twice, for every circuit I complete. Average pirate costs amounts to about 5 mil. Total profit per hour is 12 mil. I also work full time, care for my wife and kids, which leaves me about an hour a night to play.

I don't mind trading so much. I don't really care about the down economy in this version. What I would like to see happen, is for trading ships to be able to protect themselves better against pirates. I know you can hire escorts, but with the amount you have to pay, you might as well leave yourself to getting pirated. Would it be unreasonable to develop a trading ship that could be more of a challenge for a pirate to take down?

I'm not sure if this would work or not. Basically, you either increase the economy, and both traders and pirates get richer, or you keep it the same and give traders half a chance to save some of their hard earned credits. If traders were harder to kill, pirates may be willing to lower their 'taxes' for passage. It makes sense to me that if traders are getting their goods or credits consistantly stolen, then either the prices of the goods goes up, or the protection of the trading ships goes up.

This would also solve the problem that Magnorot has of boring trading routes. If you have half a chance to protect yourself against pirates, and or lawfuls in the case of smuggling, maybe trading wouldn't be as boring. Plus, with the added protection, the chances at rp would increase.

Just a suggestion. Although I must admit, I'm not smart enough to foresee all the ramifications that this would have on the game as a whole. I'll leave that to you smart people.:)
