This. If that Geisha could be placed permanently in orbit of the Hodge and the Podge, I could go there and spend time with Mal again, like I do in RL when I go to my realtive's graves.
And please dont come with 'it is a game, face it'. Because, fact: I didn't know Mal as much as other TAZ, but the time spent with him reached me in a level that I consider losing him as painful as losing a friend. He was our friend. We should be able to look after our own rituals to mourne such a loss. By we I mean TAZ, in our own system (which HE created), by our own means (wich HE introduced in the game). I just feel it is not for you to decide (this goes for the Admins as an entity, not to particulars as I know you were all close to Mal).
Fact: Most of us only knew him ingame only, so we should be able to perform our own ingame rituals to deal with his death too.

Also, we are talking about Mal! If someone has earned the respect needed for something like this to be done, it is him!

A derelict ship does pose the risk of people taking potshots at it to try and get a few codies from it...

But personally I don't see an issue with a Geisha used as a funeral barge, with a vague reference to a leader of the zoner cult in Baffin being entombed within. There's already a precedent for that in Omicron Alpha and Omicron Gamma.

Well then, we are starting to see that there is a point where everyone could agree then. The info on the wreck Geisha would be generic, not mentioning Mal's name but, as you say, 'the founder and spiritual leader of the Temporary Autonomous Zoners'.

You know.. 7 years ago i lived in florida.

And when i would go out across the street for groceries or look out from my apartment balcony there was a wooded area.

I went down into that area one day. found it will FULL of headstones. Lots of them from 1940-'s and supposedly the first graves where dug in 1813. This subject interested me to the point of realizing and finding out interstate 95 takes an uncharacteristic turn. A bow away from a "direct route"that you'd expect from an interstate. i didnt find out the reason until i got interested int he local history but.. turns out a 4 lane split highway was diverted by 8 graves and a church that had been rotted to the foundation.

People. Respect the dead. Even if we dont know them. The subject of death is a tricky horse to mount, because too many of us often fear or are too or not sensative at all.

But ill put forward some vary solid guidelines for those of you who dont know or had no association with the beloved dead.

1.) Exspress condolences.
2.) keep your nose out of thier graves, unless your invited.
3.) keep your damn views to yourself, No one here wants a argument over their corpse to happen TRUST ME.

These are important because when its you its a whole different ballgame. Ideals and slotting a natural death as a tragedy? Is entirely inappropriate. He was beloved he was an older man he died naturally. IF WE ARE LUCKY youll get to do that same. This isnt some political hub bub this isnt some retarded grab for attention THIS ENTIRE THREAD violates number 2.


Let us do and mourn and erect what we want to erect and we wont trample all over your beloved dead when the time comes. it doesent need a damn discussion. Bear had friends mal had friends leave it to them.

Reason: This is a game, and there is (in the game), the illusionary life is going, mean it's not true (for those in tanks). Game supposed to be funny and when you play it you must be having a good time. If you'r not having a good time but think of all the dead people instead mean you'r doing something wrong.

There are some different places for paying a last respect to those who died.

Nobody wants nor is going to think about dead people "all the time."

Have you looked at how increadibly, needlessly large Discovery is? One monument commemorating all of the people that have passed away after contributing to the community is not going to break the grand illusion of life happening.

To Aeternus: I would go so far as to use OORP infocards and briefly mention each person by their forum handle. Why the heck not. We have OORP infocards everywhere and Admins with their forum names flying about. People's immersion isn't disrupted. Most gamers are able to weave in and out of Roleplay modes fluidly.

P.S.: I just believed that this topic was needed because I, personally, can go to the cementary and see Backie's tomb, while most of her playing mates can't. And probably won't. I just felt, if they can't do that iRL, when why not giving them even the part of this in virtual life?
