I installed a free program called DriverMax. I ran the updates it told me to run for my Intel 945GMA. It installed. I rebooted. Still nothing.
I think I'm just screwed...
But I'm not gonna stop trying! The problem is with the bolded text format. That gets distorted and ends up all over my screen. Yes, i found out it's the actual words on infocards and such that are being stretched.
Lol. I asked cannon about my problem and this was his response:
[1:46:48 AM] Matt (Cannon): Ah. I have a similar problem. It is very annoying and I do not have a fix.
If Cannon can't fix it, you KNOW there's no chance. xD

Yes.
' Wrote:It is your video card. There is no fix. I had the same problem with a comp a while back.
I know this reply is late (I signed up here just to offer this suggestion), and this may seem obvious so just ignore me if you've tried it, but have you been through the REDIST folder on the freelancer disk and run everything? You'll find most things come preinstalled with win7 now, but not everything.
I had a nearly identical problem to this with a computer which didn't have the right version of the XML parser installed (to update it that's MSXML3.MSI in the REDIST folder).
If that doesn't work, then it's not likely to be this and you've already tried updating directX, but just doublechecking that you did run the full redist (about 95MB) from this link; http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/det...px?id=8109
and not the DXWebSetup.exe auto-detecting updater (about 300KB)? The problem there is that if the auto-updater detects directX 10 or 11 then it won't update a lot of things, which is bad, as 10/11 only has emulation for a lot of the pre-10 features or cuts them out completely. The full redist version will install correctly.
Once you've done that, there's only the graphics drivers left to try. With the intel 945 and that laptop, you should be able to get the drivers for Vista and XP from the manufacturer's website, so try the vista 32bit drivers too. If we absolutely have to, then as a last ditch effort we'll try to install the XP drivers (Windows 7 32bit does allow this), but try the above first as I really hate having to go down a route like that unless it can't be avoided.
Please don't start installing the XP drivers without talking to me a bit about it first so I can explain how it's done (and the risks involved).
EDIT: Another suggestion you've probably already tried - just for being thorough though - you have made certain bloom is off, right? Your GPU does not support bloom, so you can get all kinds of oddities if you chose to have it on.

Ok, I searched for the MSXML3.MSI file and found an update program, ran it, then downloaded the archives from that link and ran DXSETUP. That's all I did with those things. Still, the screen messes up in-game. Is there something I'm missing? Oh and ya Bloom is off.
Thanks for the help!:)
EDIT: Btw, my Freelancer Folder is on the desktop. And when i went into my program files (after searching for "XML Parser" downloads (I installed number 4 from the microsoft website) i found an MSXML 4.0 file in there but it was empty. I couldn't find a 3.0 though.
Okay, then that's everything tried except using the XP drivers. Read through this whole bit and perhaps print it out before starting, as it'll contain what to do to revert back should something go wrong (in which case the display won't work on a normal startup and you'll have to go into safe-mode to fix it).
I'll break this down into two parts, what to do to get the drivers to install, then what to do to remove them should they not work properly will be at the end.
Make sure you understand how to get into safe mode before you start, that way if you have any questions you can ask them before you begin.
Installing an XP driver in Win7 (32-bit only)
1: The first thing you should do is create a system restore point. Windows should automatically do this, but rather than leave it up to hoping windows will behave properly, I'd advise doing it yourself.
3: This is the easy way to get it to install, and if it works, it's less risky, so we'll try it first (if it doesn't work, it'll just fail detection).
Right click the 7ld140ww.exe file, choose properties.
4: Go to the compatibility tab in the properties window that comes up, tick the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" from the dropdown menu.
5: Click "Run this program as an administrator" while you're in here, then click Apply to see if it complains about anything, then OK if it doesn't seem to have any problems with that (it shouldn't).
6: Run the executable, if we're lucky then the installer should now detect the machine as windows XP and just complete, with all system related files being shifted to the appropriate places thanks to the compatibility mode. If it doesn't detect right, we'll have to force the installation from device manager, but again, we'll come to that only if we have to.
7: If everything has installed correctly to this point, reboot. The installation phase is complete and we're not onto part 2. One of a few things will happen; A: Most likely is that if it got this far without complaint then it'll work fine when it's back into windows, though you may have to reset the resolution. Try Freelancer again. B: Unlikely is that it installed but the hardware/software combination is too different, it shouldn't have got this far and be in this state, but if this is the case you'll find win7 has reverted to a Standard VGA adapter driver. Run system restore to return back to your previous state. C: Very unlikely is that the hardware/software combination is similar enough for the driver to initialize, but they don't actually match. In this case, the computer will either start up as in B, or it will come up with sound but a black screen. In the event of a black screen, you'll have to shut down the computer using the power button, then boot into safe mode on a restart (which will load the default VGA driver) and run the system restore program to return to the earlier state from there.
Now, if it fails then this is most likely to fail at step 6, so if running the driver in compatibility mode doesn't work, then let me know and we'll have to go onto the manual driver installation stage. If we get right through to the end and it seems to install properly, then you've done pretty much everything you can do judging by the other entries in this thread, so hopefully this'll work.
Hey, it's always the last thing that you try that works though, right?;)
Wow! It worked! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU VERY MUCH GOOD SIR!
You have my most sincerest thanks. And to think it was.. actually a simple fix. I feel a bit embarrassed. :$
Again, thank you friend. And nothing appears to be too different although some Win7 effects and GUI borders are a bit weird.
Thanks! :yahoo:

EDIT: Ok, the text in regular websites and on skype is a bit funny looking. It's not necessary, you've done enough already and I appreciate it greatly, but do you know if there's a way to change the funny looking things without upgrading the driver?
