The fighters dodge far too easily, and for all intents and purposes they're invincible against gunboats who dont have missile turrets.
Ehm... any self respecting gunboat pilot will tell you this is wrong, even on my Corsair gunboat, the mother of all gunboats (thing has a supernova magnet installed), I can, fairly well, dodge and fire at fighters and bombers just fine. Takes a bit of skill is all.
That's the thing about missile turrets, it takes all skill, and therefore all fun out of the equation.
Think about it this way. You have a gunboat with all turrets, and you kill a bomber. The bomber PMs you, "//GF that was some nice dodging and shooting"
Now let's say you kill a bomber with all missile turrets, what can the bomber possibly say to you that's nice? "//GF that was some nice missile key mashing on your part"?
These four things combined will make you harder to hit. Without countermeasures, you may get hit one or two times, but if you keep changing your direction after you engine kill, the missles will miss you.

Combine the following:
Engine Kill
Strafe
Thrust
Countermeasures off but have access to CM button.

Unless someone volunteers to do extensive training with the XA, LR and maybe even the LH in Connecticut like this, that won't help much and they'll still die in droves. If they DO actually train them in that, though, its clobberin' time!
Sure you can dodge but you can't shoot back, while you're doing that, CMs only last so long, and gunboat missiles are infinite..
And any missile spammer worth his salt knows to set up weapon groups so he's shooting missiles 2 at a time, so instead of a single salvo of 6/8 missiles, it's a constant stream of 2 missiles at a time, which is pretty much impossible to dodge for long...

I have been here long enough to know the techniques. However 6 missile turrets is a tad hard to dodge. and in a vanilla fighter even 2 missile hits is deadly. Once your shield is down you're taost if you get hit by a volley of six of them. Look at the people who have been saying this. There are some expert VHF pilots in there (looks at Mjolnir) and they are complaining bitterly about it. I think we need them to have ammo.
' Wrote:Well I'm repeating myself.. but you can't place 6 noobs in a bomber and go to rape infinite number of caps...
you can do it the other way with missile GBs.
Hey, they're ultra specialised... so they're ultra good. At one thing. Try stop a smuggler with a missile boat, for instance. That's hard, I'm guessing.

Or a trader.
You cannot scratch a transport's shields with a missileboat. Likewise, It's nearly impossible to keep a trade lane locked down using missiles, whereas even a level 1 gun could shut down a trade lane pretty quickly.
Missile boats suck for pirates, they're not very good for police forces either (against smugglers at least). The only factions that really get any use out of missile boats are military factions, which WOULD have such specialized ships, as they can afford to escort those ship in groups with bombers or larger capships.
