A limited liftetime sounds good for reducing stockpiles, but I feel (particularly the toptier) rewards price should be scaled down. (Or mpre SD is realeaed onto the server, knowing it will be gone quickly?) Getting 4-5k in a short time (few months?) would be hard and expensive.

Perhaps SD gets wiped at the end of each quarterly activity check?

Definitely an idea that could help stop excessive stockpiling for *hopefully* better shinies, when theres already shiny stuff available.

Temporary commodities won't solve anything but make those who invested the money they earned like anyone else did (over years) mad about it. You guys REALLY should stop treating people who have Sci-Data as the ultimate evil, because in no way is the current amount of Sci-Data in the game a limit that prevents new data to enter the pool. That assumption is just plain stupid, to be honest. There will always be only so much new Sci-Data that gets into the game, and taking it away from those who spent hours and billions to get what they have now will definitely have a motivational repercussion - I have a five digit amount of Sci-Data, and if that would suddenly vanish or if I was forced to use it suddenly, it would piss me off - for no reason. No matter what, none of you will have my Sci-Data. It doesn't matter if I buy shinies from it or if I stockpile them for trading or waiting. You won't change what I do with it.

That being said, I am almost not interested in the current shinies and rather interested in what was teased as Tier 2 and Tier 3 rewards. However, definitely not a temporary power-up. That feels like wasting billions for blues I am not interested in. And I'm seriously hesitant about the Capital Codenames since Sledges and Kinetics have been "fixed" into entirely different weapons. I won't buy stuff that suddenly has an entirely different field of use. The Kinetics are useless now when you get chased and have to dodge because of the extremely slow turret movement speed - meaning you are often likely to cause the turret to have a cooldown without the turret having fired because you moved the mouse, and Sledges turned from Primary-Slot-Hellbores into Primary-Slot-Cerbs, which made them uninteresting since two Cerbs are still better than five Sledges and they have less range than Primaries, meaning you're simply better going with two Cerbs for DPS or five normal Primaries for Range+DPS. All that would have been needed to balance the Sledges would have been less accuracy or less projectile speed. Instead they got changed from Hellbores to Cerbs. Luckily, the Greens were just as pissed about the changes as I was so they allowed me to refund it.

My honest opinion about this thread is not a high one. It looks very much like people complaining that they need to invest time and virtual money to get their hands on absolutely optional shinies. The idea behind Sci-Data is exactly to motivate players to spend more time ingame. People like individualism. They like buying colorful lights and engines for their ships, and now you can get Cultist engines. They like to do some quasi-impacting stuff for groups and factions, so now you can buy NEMPs and Jump Hole Generators or even alter the look of their PoBs (if it was available, as it is Tier 3). People also can break the meta with Codenames that are only good in certain situations. The Capital Codes aren't anything like top-tier, they are simply different. Good in this situation, bad in that situation. Looking at them for many hours, testing them in SP and on the server, I can tell you all they are only so good, while the best two loadouts for capitals are still Primaries + Mortars/Hellbores/Cerbs and Pulses + Hellbores/Mortars/Cerbs. Nothing is as solid and allround as those two combinations. Which is why they are a thing in the meta.

Of course, if you really want it that badly, I can show up to any PvP situation with NEMPs and ruin your fun, so that you can rant in another thread about the NEMP torpedo concept. I can buy enough of them to piss anyone off.

1 data per NPC from a mission is just lol. NOBODY would trade, everyone would just be silently farming missions in some dark corner of Sirius during silent hours. If you are too lazy to trade or too busy doing 'RP' that you don't have money to buy them, should we cater to you so that even someone with barely any money can afford them? What do you think vets with billions stocked would be able to do, then?

I'd rather not see even more people getting their hands on game-breaking buffs like powercore upgrades and armor boosts or moronic weapons like thunderwaves and feuerballs anyway.

For reference, killing a Liberty dread gives you roughly 5 million, total of loot. If you make NPCs (especially snubs) drop data, which are priced roughly the same, can you see how problematic it is?

I did not intend for this to be a thread filled with negativity. For me, the current Sci-Data rewards are okay, but it's more the principle of the thing that it's nearly impossible for me to obtain any of this "magical shiny cool thing" without shelling out oodles of money for it. I realize however that sometimes, an opinion is better held behind a held tongue, because apparently, wanting to pitch an idea I thought would be cool only ended up being choke-slammed to the ground and I've been left wondering "Where did I go wrong?"

It was also not my intention to paint Sci-Data hoarders as "The Ultimate Evil." My own Data count is currently sitting in the double digits, and I've had most of it since last year (Mainly because you can't buy much with 90 Data, especially if caps aren't your forte). Honestly, you HAVE to hoard Data with how expensive the rewards are (Anywhere between 175-500 per fighter gun, which is the most common ship class).

On a more serious note, I'm pretty sure Purrito knows I was not targeting him but all those who proposed to turn Sci-Data into a temporary commodity without giving a good reason as to why to do so. Because there is nothing wrong with people storing their shinies - be it as Sci-Data or as purchased items. Simply because it makes no difference whether I have 100 Sci-Data, 10.000 Sci-Data or 50 Nemps and a bunch of ships with nice contrails or cultist engines. In the very end, no other player will have anything constructive from it. That is a fact people need to accept. As soon as the Sci-Data is in the hands of the community and the owner decides to not trade it, it is out of the pool. Nothing will change it, and there is no limitation from the greens on how much Sci-Data is allowed to be in the hands of the community. It's plain stupid, just as your attempt to deconstruct my post. Stupid and not necessary.

I made on other occasions already known that I oppose Purrito's idea, since my post was not targeting him but Jorge and Spazzy and whoever else wants to push and force people to not stash stuff. I oppose the idea of non-event NPCs dropping Sci-Data since we don't need more lolwuts who rage at you for having dared to kill someone who was doing missions. Look at Omicron Delta, at the guys who farm Nomad BS Remains and instantly rage at you for treating them like PvP-Targets - something they are when they enter the server with battleships. As long as the main way of handing out Sci-Data are PvE events, people are encouraged to show up in big crowds and do at least a certain amount of RP, and newcomers see that. However, in Delta, when people farm Nomad BS Remains, they just see a group of heated capital noobs who fire rainbows at people who decimate them within short time by using brain and 3465785349697 hours of Connecticut. And those people usually call you MFs in local, which is funny once or twice, but mostly annoying when it is all they give you.

I do think we have enough ways to get Sci-Data into the game. Trading events, PvP-Events, great PvE events and rarely smaller things, and of course derelicts. And Sci-Data is sold by a bunch of people, so those who don't have hours a day for Discovery can trade a bit over a week or a month and have a bunch of millions or billions to buy Sci-Data later. On the other hand, there is nothing that is so incredibly interesting about the purchaseable stuff that makes it a must-have. Which was described in my previous post.
