[font=Agency FB][color=#FFFFFF]Idea sounds really good. I think the indies should exist, and shouldn't have to learn nomspeak, because the idea of nomads communicating with their enemies in ANY way is just preposterous. If you see a nomad on the scope and don't run, it's your problem. They should have access to Irras. And then some. Irras are rather bad cruisers because of their (as Akura mentioned) lack of cruiser special weapons, but make it an imperative that it's followed by at least two lesser Nomads, since it IS a mindnode. No Marduks though, that's reserved for Keepers, as they are the mightiest, oldest and wisest of the Squids. Also, why ban them from attacking transports? As ShadowDancer said, it's just stupid that someone would turn down a free kill, and limiting them this way would actually be OORP. It would definitely make it a huge gamble to travel through the Omicrons, ESPECIALLY with artifacts. All in all, the idea is cool. We definitely need vanilla nomads. I wouldn't fly one, but we still need them.
Sucks to be a weight on the wrong side of the brilliance-insanity scale.
' Wrote:I proposed this ages ago, and I think its hilarious it hasnt already been done. Do the server admins have so little trust in their players that they believe giving them a faction with lots of enemies would ruin the server?
I like this and think that yes, they should definitely be vanilla nomads, PLEASE no more of that "Nomads only wanted to be friends honest - they fired the love torpedo at freeport 7, but they loved the humans too much" Or
*Me..Cant..think...goodengagmentnotice....spam...words...pvp?* That talk sounds dumb, and I never saw a vanilla nomad talking AT ALL, the ships arnt the same as the things that infest you, and they dont have "pilots" theres no reason for them to talk at all.
This way, all those who would rather just fight (I dont know why, cos disco fighting engine is pretty lame, but they are here) can go be nomads, an let us in the core worlds actually get on.
Nomad RP isnt hard:
There are Humans.
They are our enemies.
Kill them.
I think that if this happens, the STUPID Order/LN/BHG war should finally be ended. Could be fun RP - the new surge of Nomads (they were all this time building thier strength, pretending to be retarded hippies) has forced them to put aside their differences and band together for survival. Also Nomads should be allowed in Alaska.
You're thinking too much like a human.
Nomads don't hold grudges, or see themselves as superior, or humans inferior. If they want to do something, they'll go ahead and do it. If mankind gets in the way, they'll defend themselves.
They don't want peace, but they don't want war either. They don't hate humanity for inhabiting their stars, they just don't want to be wiped out, this is why their most prominant and important goal in Sirius is to find and remove all active artifacts from human culture.
This is why the Nomads made artifacts illegal during the Nomad War by pulling strings, to make them easier to find and control, it's why the Das Wilde are so aggressive and the Aoi Iseijin hold power in Kusari. It's the reason the Nomads leave the Nomad Worlds and wander around.
Humanity doesn't understand this however, so they shoot at the Nomads. That's all it is, lack of communication on both sides.
The Order are a small thorn in the side of the Nomads, which is why they end up glassing Toledo. If the Nomads truely wanted to wipe out humanity, the Order would have died a while ago and there would be large chunks of rock where house planets used to be.
It's nothing personal, Nomads just kill people because people they get in the way.
Akura, your just making things up and trying to retcon. The nomads are crazy janitors left over from when the dom kavosh went on spring break, like those bug things on the citadel in mass effect. They attacked humans cos of old orders. They are not strong enough to wipe out humans directly, so they tried infiltration.
That is what vanilla told us, so that is the truth.
If you want to change what they do NOW, thats fine, perhaps they have decided that NOW they want peace cos they cant win, but making stuff up about how they were nice really, back then, and presenting it as though it were fact; just makes you look silly.

With uncertainty as how it would work out I would prefer if this was a time-limited experiment.
Say two-three months tops. After then it's closed down for reports and feedback analysis (should take a while), followed by releasing a conclusion whether to give the idea a real go or not. Because if experiment is given a go it should not be set permanently from the start given the uncertainty in how it would play out and to what result. There are legitimate concerns and many of which I think are quite true, but there is also a small chance it just might work out. Who knows? So why not, let's give it a try, but not rush in. It has to be approached with great care and caution.
During that period the players would be encouraged to provide their feedback in form of small posts in a specific thread where public can send in their feedback messages but cannot see them (same as sanction thread is done). This way no flaming and trolling would occur, and such messages if sent it would be discarded. At the end of trial period that feedback is analyzed, determining positive, negative and neutral responses. The final decision would be made by admin team plus votes from keepers faction and feedback gathered from the rest of the community in that special thread.
If results will be mostly positive but might need adjustments then it might be a second time-limited attempt, but if it's really good - green light and congratulations!
But if it's concluded that the experiment went bad the whole thing is canned and all characters with that ID are deleted. Equally if it goes horribly wrong at first several weeks - it's the killswitch. So yes, bad players, if their amount and overall activity will exceed reasonable thresholds and generally surpass the good players amount and activity, will result in everyone there sinking to the bottom. That should give incentitive for players participating in experiment to work for positive result and watch that their fellow "indie test nomads" behave as well. Nobody going to hold your hand in this, you are to prove being capable what you claim to uphold, this would not be receiving entitlements just because you simply demand them. If this "indie nomads" is what you want you'll be interested in making it succeed in the end and put substantial effort into that worthy cause. With that kind of ID comes responsibility and of course a dose of scrutiny, such as those the official factions are under. Being indie wouldn't mean you're an exempt from it and can do whatever the hell you want.
Essentially it's a "sink or swim". If it works - good. If not - just can it and forget about it after. Think it can succeed? Good. Because it would be the first and only chance to prove indies can be trusted with this kind of thing, but if they fail - a second chance would not be an option. I consider that a fair game.
If I were to run this experiment I would do it like this.

Actually, Yuri taught me this once in a skype conversation, one time when I was trying to formulate some Wild RP. He told me to stop thinking like a person and think like a Nomad, then he explained how the Nomad think.
And he actually wrote the Nomad lore, and invented the Keepers.
The Nomads being programmed to kill humanity is what the Order believe the Nomads are, but the Order are about 80% wrong about everything they think about Nomads, which is all assumption as they have no way of actually learning it, they don't communicate with the Nomads so they can't possibly know how the Nomads think.
Ever since the idiotic 10k rule was removed, and after that nomad morphs were no longer forced ot be OORP by rules but now forced to be IRP by rules, I felt that the walls of the bastions of discoverygc stupidity were slowly crumbling.
Akura is on the right track.
Like 2 years late, but still smarter than the disco average.
I would also suggest a "must stfu in system and local chat" for nomads, and a "RP is forbidden for nomads prior, during, or after any engagemnt" rule. The "must stay in omicrons and also out of alpha and gamma" is also correct.
I know people here wont agree, but I felt I must say what is right anyway.
