' Wrote:As a mtter of a fact I have been wanting to try a fighter character as of late. i have my Kith SHF but the word is Igiss has plans for it. And machine characters may get a fighter too, so I was wanting to get my fighter skills up. As with the ship adjustments we may have to mod our ship roles.
Any suggestions for a fighter noob to fly, the only two I've like so far are the Ravens claw and talon.
fly a titan, get good in it. After that you should be able to fly anything like an ace.
I don't like specialized weapons being very inefficient either, they should be on par or better than normal turrets so that the hit "pays off".
About the numbers...
just ignore them... they are make like this to make sure fighters can't fire GB forward guns (since some can be mounted on them) and the other way around.
The thing that should concern you is damage vs % of powercore used
No other ship than GB can fire full load of "normal" guns and be gaining energy. Even the smaller bombers loose energy while firing 4 of the more powerhungry codes.

@ Scornstar.. start with agile but not uber ship. Wrath, Chimaera, Eagle.. that sort of thing. Maybe even a LF or HF (taiidan). Another option is one of the faster bombers, since that makes sure you stay alive a bit longer => but you will also do much less damage in the start.
With fast turning ship you will face the enemy a lot => you have time to learn aiming. In slow ships you need to hit a lot since you get fewer opportunities to fire
But with fast ships you can get "the uber ship syndrome" basically you get too used to the easy dodging and ace pilots will rape you or you get slower ship and EVERYONE will rape you.
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
What's with all the raping... well i got raped in my Kusari Desie by blood dragon cruiser + 3 bombers... I didn't have my light mortar yet... But I will in due time...
There is an unsubtle diffrence between players who can Aim and those who can't... While hitting big ships isn't all that hard, it makes a terible diffrence when you aim at fighters...
Main problem with cruisers is the gunboat imbalance...

The charge rate while fireing is not true. The Varyag with its 10 guns can still charge, beit very slowly, while firing. I am sure smaller cruisers that have the same powerplant with less guns charge well while firing.
If I was to do anything to balence cruisers and BS, I would up the damage on all the basic level turrets for cruisers and BS by 1000. These are all the standard cruiser, cruiser defense, and basic cruiser guns. Leave everything else the same and bam, Cruisers and BS are where they are suppost to be. It isn't a huge power upgrade at all, just enough.

I thought it was second most maneuverable? (Kusari Destroyer being first.)
It hasn't got that large a profile does it?
Having flown the thing I'm pretty sure it isnt even close to being second most manuverable.
The talarca easily out manuvers it, while having a smaller profile. The Liberty cruiser has better manuverability as well.
It only has 9 guns, and not enough of a powerplant to support them. Like I said, with even 7 Order Mk2 (cruiser) turrets, My power would not regenerate while firing.
The zoner destroyer has a very large profile from all sides, while most other cruisers are at least small from the front/back or sides. The kusari destroyer has a front profile smaller than most gunboats, while the talarca isnt much larger from the front. The zoner destroyer is like flying a whale.

Either your turrets are much more efficient, or the zoner dessie has a crappy powerplant recharge rate.
If I can add something to this, as a destroyer pilot in my zoner char, and as a fairly new disco player;
It seems to me, from observation that it is entirely strange, unfair and bemusing that a bomber (singular) has a very very good chance of wasting very expensive, heavily armoured medium capital ships such as destroyers and cruisers. The simple reason this happens, and we all know it, is the SN.
in my humble opinion the SN is perhaps the most broken thing in the mod currently.. It does a little under triple the hull damage of a cruiser mounted mortar and has a tiny fraction of the energy consumption. I'm against removing it altogether, but I believe some of the following needs to happen to redress the balance here.
1. halve the damage dealt by the SN.
2. restrict its availability.
3. jack up the price.
4. reduce the firing rate??
And also, I concur that there's no friggin ANY GB should be besting a destroyer (I'm assuming reasonable pilots in both here..).. Thats just... weird.

I keep over-turning.
hah, i've had the same issue. I mostly fly transports, gunboats, and cruisers... all slower ships. Whenever I start up open singleplayer to test a new ship, and it sticks me in a starflea while im flying to wherever the ship is sold, I over-manuver
It's like going from driving a mack truck to a motorcycle.
