I hardly think that counts...for one, there's no glowing green text, nor will many people see it before this particular thread becomes horribly buried.
I was under the impression that admin speak only counted as an admin decision, and not the opinion of a player, when it was greenish.
If the mercenary could pirate, I have a feeling we would be finding half the current pirates on the server
carrying a mercenary ID. Would give a carte blanche to a horror show ...
We are waiting on 4.85 to get the info cards updated, along with a hundred other things of course. Please
take as gospel ...
Mercenaries do not Pirate

True, but my assumption is based on the fact that an Admin has stated that Mercs can't pirate, as well as the fact that the 4.85 ID clearly says no pirating. Plus, logically speaking, Mercs aren't pirates. ID cards can't be updated without a new mod release (currently, at least), so the typo couldn't be easily corrected. The lack of an Admin Notice before now is probably because it's never really come up, and now it's close enough to 4.85 (supposedly) that one really isn't necessary.
Its not a change in the official position, that is entirely the reason the BAF-P could not use Mercenary IDs
in the first place, and were given special leave to use the Pirate one.
We have made this very clear, so lets go and argue about something else now please.

During the time that the Privateers used the Merc ID, I thought it was a special exception and the Merc ID was just the only not-entirely-unlawful ID which could possibly be chosen. Something about a permanent mercenary contract from Carina... But anyway, it didn't work out, and the Pirate ID was adopted.

We are not in 4.85 yet so lets stick to what's in 4.84. Way I understand it ... in 4.85 Bounty Hunters are limited to gunboats and smaller for collection of bounties. We've not implemented that in 4.84 yet so lets not talk about what's "going to be" in 4.85 if we're not going to implement it now.
I agree that Mercs should not be pirates ... but infocards need to be taken at face value ... otherwise we're gonna have people getting sanctioned for what they are not aware of. Someone may say "well I'm just acting according to my ID's infocard" and then they get sanctioned because someone somewhere "hidden" amongst all the numerous discussion threads that nobody can find that the infocard is incorrect and thus they are in violation. I don't like small print and I don't like 20 pages of legal papers written in legalese. Give it to me clear, concise and up front. Don't hide stuff in some obscure thread nobody can find.
I very much agree with you... But in this case, 4.85 is almost out, and this hasn't yet been a problem and it's doubtful it will be before 4.85 unless people do it intentionally.
What we need, or might need, is a pinned Admin Notice thread compiling all errata to infocards and other such things which fall outside the normal rules post.
