Sorry for my poorly worded statement. The IMG was left out of the discussion for somewhere around 30 posts. That is what I was referring to.
I agree that the IMG has potential and has to be resourseful enough to be relatively self sufficient - with trade making up for what they don't do (food, pharms, goods).
Don't agree that the IMG cowers. But we typically don't go looking for trouble.
I worry when 85 comes out the IMG will get run over by all the hostile traffic moving in and out of the Gallic systems thru the taus. Hoping for better economic oportunities in the Omegas.

I don't think the Gallics will care much for people shooting rocks all day long, so long as it's not their rocks. Besides, they're enemies of the houses. We're the Independent Miners Guild. If they're going after miners, it'll be those guys at Kruger and BMM.
We only have one base in the Omegas, unfortunately, and it's away from the major asteroid fields. Kruger's base is in the middle of one. Not to mention that a BMM station is one system over.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.

You've not played the 4.85 beta, Dusty has, who do you think does the infocards? ;D
Don't presume you folks all know what 4.85 holds, because only about some 40 or so of the people in this community do:P
I'd say Orbital Spa and Cruise would be up there. They have money pouring in from their resorts on Curacao and Baden-Baden, plus the Hawaii and the Shetland.

Besides the Outcasts, why would anyone go after people who shoot rocks for a living?
Regardless, Dusty just seems to enjoy putting down a faction that's at least 20 times larger than the faction he's advocating. *cough* Xenos *cough* Meh, whatever. His only argument was a blatant flame on the IMG.

IMG is neither a sector powerhouse nor "fringe dwelling resource scrapers." It was a "loose confederation of miners" until the mod was developed such that we started making ships and exploring. Now IMG is a relatively powerful organization, but only within a limited region, and whatever influence we have is spread through careful diplomacy and economics rather than fleet size or established borders.
In my work on the faction, I have concentrated on the idea of community. This is where people live their lives, for better or worse, and we make a decent living at it. IMG is no longer merely a loose association; it is a political community, though not a traditional one (with territory, etc.), and while not the most powerful, it can hold its own.
I think IMG needs to be understood as more of a power in the Taus, but that would be my only complaint about its perceived weakness (aside from "disagreements" with the Hackers about Magellan). I think the image of IMG as the lapdog of Kusari needs to be shed. IMG might have helped instigate the Kusari war for immediate self-interest (rumors conflict on that one), but long-term Kusari domination of the Taus would not be in the Guild's best interests.

IMG is underestimated. It's almost a house in and of itself with the ships and bases it owns. The only problem is, is that it's spread out in unfriendly territory. If the CR has a full-out war with Bretonia, or IMG allies with Kusari, the IMG infrastructure in Bretonia will be shredded.
But then, that's where Gateway and Planetform, which are two large Bretonian factions, come in. They can make negotiations. IMG might be the solution to the war. And being that important solution, they're like the trainer holding a biscuit over two dogs constantly fighting.
Though considering IMG has connections [and members] from Rheinland, Kusari, and Bretonia, it could easily hold its own. The only weak points are its extremes, Omega-7, Tau-37, and Dublin. Though Dublin isn't a major threat area, as they are neutral to Mollies and BMM lacks the firepower and backing to take on such a large faction.

Kurosora, if CR would go to war with Bretonia, the IMG would still stay as friendly as they are now to us, but they'd be for neutrality in the war. and they'd probably achieve it.
So I don't think IMG infrastructure would be attacked by Bretonians.
And FYI, Tau 37 and Dublin are not so threatened, but South Shields is.

Right, definitely South Shields as BAF has TWO battleships in that system.
Tau-37 from the Outcasts.
Well, as I've read in a post regarding the CR, it stated it as being much like the IMG's unofficial military, though not completely linked. It'd involve quite a bit of tension, as the IMG are just tolerated in Bretonia.

As it stands now, the CR has been involved in an incident where BAF attacked us in Tau 31, and also in few others where BAF Privateers cooperated with GC in the destruction of CR traders.
We are now back to hostile with BAF, but IMG is under orders from it's leadership not to interfere, so that will earn them brownie points with Bretonia.
And as for tau 37, in game rumors, Outcasts do not even know where Falkland is exactly.
And the combined force of IMG and CR is both in RP and reality capable of defending it.
