I think I was in that fight (on the Outcast side) and got a completely different conclusion. Basically, in the current meta, the side with no small ships is at a heavy disadvantage. They can't hit, they can't run, they can't cloak, they have no way of disengaging or prolonging the fight. They can only die to the GB / bomber swarm. Does that seem like a good balance to you? Haste once said that he wants all classes to have a chance against the others. Seems it's not really the case in the current meta.

I had the exact same experience with the RH (mind you, I know there's a big skill gap here) vs DTR/Corsairs raids.

To be honest, I'd rather have this than last patch's meta though. Last patch I could have like 5 people shooting at me and I just wouldn't be touched because I would strafe in a box in engine kill and I'd take twenty minutes to die while vastly outnumbered. Like, that's not healthy, either. You have options against a larger force, you just gotta make use of them.

Nah. In a situation like that this or past patch or any patch ever you simply get cruised and piled on. Still, the people who know what they're doing could kill kiting ships, which I assume you'd know since you're one of the 'better' players.

The counterplay is to focus on a single gunboat and have your cruisers dive it, one at a time.

A ship that was kiting properly was, frankly, not killable. Being cruised on was solved by having people CDing other ships which, as has been pointed out in this thread, is how most fleet fights tend to be. Basically it ended up with a subset of people that were untouchable but could still deal damage in return which is imho not healthy gameplay.

Balancing (only) for duels is bad. Most of the gameplay in Disco revolves around one side being (heavily, even) outnumbered. Not fun when your only options in that case are to die faster or slower I guess.

First of all, I never said any of this should be balanced for a 1v1, I simply gave an example on how to have a chance in one. Second of all, how do you propose to balance for a massively unbalanced fight, exactly? Try fighting against groups that actually will give you a fair fight and you'll have better luck. I also didn't go into detail on just how underused and poorly laid out some of those ship loadouts were in the video. I don't think I saw any of those ships fire their flak a single time for example.

I might voice an unpopular opinion, but the snub gameplay was dead to me since the fighter rebalance, before the 5.0. Buffing the agility and valuing maneuvers more than aiming just killed my motivation to improve on that said maneuvering. Because I could aim. There are lots of really competitive games in which good aim can bring you a formidable result. Surely it can't rival with experience and knowledge in the long term, but I wasn't pretending like I'm much higher than an average duelist. I feel that my advantage has been taken away from me in favor of more experienced players, who already could beat most of the players on the server, including me, without it. I don't understand how intense maneuvering, or as I call it "twelve buttons jerking" can be interesting for a beginner, or mastering at all. I don't want to belittle the abilities of the people who have mastered it, all the techniques and tricks are important, but I'm confused as to why these tricks have become the main way to win, and not a temporary advantage due to dueling experience. I am sad to see this is projected on capital ships gameplay. In fact, I'm so demotivated by the reviews about something bigger than a gunboat, that I am not learning how to combat on a GB and waiting for it's nerf, so that PVP in Disco would end for me. Please balance this with something in the middle instead of the past and current extremes.

In a live role playing environment, you are not owed or mandated to be given a duel. Fights develop differently every time and people have varying degree of time to log on their hands or have their own plans.
