And how many is that anymore?

Being allowed to recruit on the forums, have a message dump in the Message Dumps forum, and getting people to stop assuming we're just a bunch of morons like we all know absolutely all indies and unofficial factions are.

(that last part was sarcasm, people.)

No, I don't think that justifies the expenditure.

Well, there's also an extra battleship license, right? Not that it helps for most factions though.

You know what I think would work best? If the fee was on a sliding scale so that underrepresented factions didn't have to pay much, but ones that already had a bunch of official factions would have to hand out more to get recognized.

I believe 500 mil fee is both evil and needed for greater good. For example, it will take some time for faction to cough up 500mils so others will probably get used to them in meantime.

Bad part is that its waste of 500 mils for no good cause.

I think Katyn got good idea how to deal with it. Moving slider of value depending on representation. So for example, gaian faction or bundies would pay about 100-200 mils while new outcast group would need to cough up 700 or more.

Maybe slider should be connected to amount of player factions with connections to npc faction. Ergo, unrepresented faction that has no active playerfaction connected to it would cost only 100. While each extra player faction in npc faction would increase cost by 100-200 mils. Depending on npc faction size rp.

I think that's a brilliant idea, personally.

Have the cost work out in some formulaic sort of way perhaps? For instance:

base + (official x base)

Say, 150m was the base amount. For a new Corsair faction, it'd end up being 600m. (I think there's 3 already?) Or maybe 200m/800m.

Or... adjust the minimum number of players who need to be involved. Perhaps for a new Outcast faction, 10 people would need to be interested, whereas for a new DSE faction (none of which exist), it would only need to be 3. Then have the fee and minimum someway related.

I agree with Rev Del. The factions that did not pay are official because the "passed" the requirements at that time. The 500 million came "after" those factions were already official.

You cannot pass a law and then go back and make them all adhere to it after the fact. That simply does not make any sense.

Why not just drop the registration fee? Anyone who makes a bad faction proposal (as opposed to a good one which people suggest changes to) is prevented from posting any more. Then unofficial factions are encouraged to define their ZOI, RP, equipment and so on rather than told not to.

No longer active online due to a dwindling amount of non-PvP (trading, pirating, mining, etc.) fun in the new version.

As a member who was here before the 500 mil rule, and especially in the time leading up to it, the forums were literally flooded with faction proposals. There would be three and four in a single day, but because of the rules at the time, there was no restriction on posting them, also the only requirement that had to be met was membership numbers. These rules were put in place to stop the YANF phenomena, and you know what? They have worked exactly as they were supposed to, we are not flooded with "I am here with friends, we want to shoot outcasts cause they are druggies" faction posts every day. The path to officialdom for a faction now days is much more demanding, and thats exactly what it should be. Older factions that have not been able to adapt to the new faction responsibilities have gone or been forced out. This whole argument is moot, the older factions have paid the same amount of money as those who applied after the new rules, and the older factions have to meet the same standard as the newer ones. If someone could point to a faction that does not meet the expectations of official factions, then maybe this conversation would be relevant, but with the exception of some activity issues, which are the same for old and new factions, every faction that currently has official status would have been accepted for being official under the new rules. So what are we really arguing about here?

Yay! Who needs a system when you can have a BARGE!? (I love my barge :D)
