Disco developers have pissed on the lore many times. This should be no surprise.
I'm all for the lanes getting an updated model that looks a tad more realistic. If the lore is altered to show they were originally built that way no lore has to be pissed on. Governments regularly waste money on aesthetic stuff that serves very little purpose other than looking pretty.
Though, I'd bet if the houses did that they'd also have the lanes they paid for in the independent worlds also match the ones they have inside their houses. Meaning half the lanes in Cortez would be Bretonian and the other Libertonian. Same for the other indy systems.
As for the model in the topic? I don't like it. Not much more substantial than the current model. I think Gallia's models are more fitting for the type of devices that lane nodes are.

And besides, it's developers' word against yours.
Lore can be changed, new lore created.
Live with that.
In response;
I'm not afraid of a few models changing. I'm not screaming the sky is falling or 4.87 is a lie. I'm saying I personally won't like the change that is being proposed.
With regards to the case of developers vs. me, I don't think it's the developers, but rather the community that will decide and react to decisions made. It's certainly not about people having to trust what a developer says or what I say (and haha if you're trying to say I'm a lesser being).
Yes, lore can be changed or replaced. Problem is, unrealistic changes have made the community unhappy before, and completely replacing lore makes a big adjustment, a lot of extra work for devs, and a big shift that people may not be ready or willing to adapt to.
Can you live with all that, too?
Edit: Daedric ninja'd me because I had an exam in-between posting, but I might clarify I'm up for perhaps certain adjustments to lore that wouldn't have a huge impact. Hey, I'm up for changing the colours of the lane beams, imagine if Ageira found the light wavelength was irrelevant and variable. Cool.
Differently named and filed, but identical models that call on different effects? Sounds entirely doable, if you consider the nomad gates have different effects. That is, if we can work on effects files to alter colour like that. I'm entirely up for this because it's not a 'physical' change and it's much easier to implement into the existing lore. Just another idea for people who want individuality

Nope. Anything beyond the core house worlds would have the bland basic lane node. See this more as a "house beautification" deal. It's intended to add some flavor to the houses, and make them stand apart from eachother. Something that this game SORELY lacked, but judging from the original concept art, was intended. In the config files, different lane transition and gate transition effect entries are also defined, but only the nomad and bretonian versions were ever finished.

You don't understand it.

I can't say I like this model. It looks like someone took a bunch of Guardians and pointed them towards a common center, and then stuck a double-bladed lightsaber in the middle which seems to serve absolutely no purpose. It's not very appealing or interesting.
I much prefer the current model, though I would like to see the current trade lane brought up to standards in terms of modeling quality.
There's also how it goes against lore and frankly I think personalized stations would be a better way of adding variety.

Fairly odd if you ask me. I mean, last time I checked, the houses consider the border worlds part of their space. At least the side of it closest to them.
I figure, if they were going to pay for the lanes they own to be built to their specification they'd have all of them built to that specification. Not just the ones in systems that a Disco developer randomly decided.
I'm not sure how having all of the lanes a house owns look the same would detract from the flavor of the house. In my mind, it would actually add more flavor than only doing 80% of the lanes a house owns.
Mh. I suppose. I just figured it'd be a nice help for newbies to be able to see by the lanes when they are in house core space. But there's no real reason not to do lanes owned by a particular faction a specific theme.
