How about you all sit down and drink on a nice big mug of STFU!? Seriously, we try to arrange a simple RP changing the SA to LN rather than 99.9% of factions out that just say "We changed, lulz!" and this happens?
1) Linkus, how on earth would say ... America ... react if they found around 30 independent carriers, battleships, cruisers, destroyers and all sorts sailing around North America using USS callsigns. Well, they'd freak is the simple answer. You should be thankful if anything that we don't pull an RM and blast the indies sky-high. You're saying we have a powerplay going on? Yet you're supporting people who've traded for a week or so, bought a big ship and called themselves admiral.
2) Like Xing put, you're all trying to tell us how to run Liberty yet very few of you spend every bit of your online time flying around as lawful or unlawful (i, personally, do both) and a fairly big number of you just pop in every now and then and complain about how bad it is. So please, stop trying to tell us how to do something we've been dealing with for much longer than you based on a 10 minute window of viewing.
3) Del, the SA caps will most likely be grounded but don't take my word for that, i don't have the final say. I'll be talking with various other members and you'll have our verdict soon enough.

Thank you Niezck. I await your response.
Now for my opinion on the rest of you folks who are whining about some simple RP. As Niezck mentioned the SA could have just changed and told you all to suck it up. They didn't, they posted an RP topic and then invited you to ask questions here, instead it's been mostly whining about powerplaying.
I support this FYI, but neither of my characters will. So expect some -RP- responses detailing both Simon Reynolds and Nathan Williamson's distaste for the latest offering from Liberty's "Military" government. I would be somewhat surprised if half of the complainants here did anything remotely the same.

The current stance of the LN on use of SA capital ships is as follows:
The [SA] tagged capital ships will be used in the stead of [LN] tagged ones when Liberty is in need only. For general use we will use our Liberators/Guardians/Avengers/Havocs. The only [LN] tagged capital vessels at this time are the Independence, Halifax and Ontario. They may or may not be used as a patrol vessel depending on how many other active [LN] pilots we have online.

Again thank you. For further clarification please define : In need. This can be construed as a vague term.
It has been mentioned that a sufficient force of bombers is all that is required to take out a large force of capital vessels, but I can also see the wisdom in wishing to send off the OORP fleets quickly and get back to proper RPing.
Incidentally if, in the time between now and when the name changes go through, the LR and LN organise fleet battles, the LR will have no issue with you using SA tagged vessels for these fights.

In need (in my eyes) includes but is not restricted to being situations where capital gunshots would aid in the downing of large and/or multiple capital ships within Liberty. This can include Corsair raids (ugh ...), Outcasts Alliance attacks and a number of other things. It can also include situations where a present capital fleet can potentially scare away hostiles (See: Bringing out Independence and San Francisco ... 2 OC DSs fled immedaitly)
EDIT: Or like just now ... Phantom Osiris in New York so we scrambled all we could.
Frankly i'm in favour of this and it is long overdue. Also, I am in favour of general restrictions towards so-called independents. Get it through your heads! There is no such thing as an independent member of a nation's military, police or security agency, not in freelancer, not in real life, not anywhere. You take orders from the official chain of command or you die like the obvious traitor you are. End of story.
If you want to be an independent, go get a mercenary or Freelancer ID, but even then you still have to obey the officially constituted chain of command of the House military/police/security forces. If you carry a Liberty Navy ID, you're in the Liberty Navy, so act like it, suck it up and take orders.

Of course, that's just my take on things:)
Amen, Kuraine. Independant military players should only be allowed in the event no faction for that military exists. I doubt this will be the case for some time. But what you have just said is so many kinds of true.
Now that the Liberty Navy is unified again, I shall be scrapping my indie Navy character in his crummy Starblazer.
I have a serious question here, aside from all the faction flaming.
Now that the Liberty Navy is all one entity, will the independent systems get patrolled? I mean really, Cortez and Magellan are dangerous. Guarnteed you will have the lanes drop on you at least once through there if you do a trading run. I even saw an OPG guy there once, but that probably should not happen.
Now, if anyone cares, here is my opinion on Navy indies.
It does not mean a member of the military is working for themselves. That would be really stupid because they would need to be a merc to work like that, and they are members of the military. Just because they do not want to join a player faction and follow their every word does not mean they are oorp idiots or capwhores ( don't get me wrong, some people are like that. Someone had a good quote about how those type of indies far outweigh the good. Did I just make a case against myself? oh well.)
