The first thing I thought by looking these projectiles was this...
Would be great if other factions receive such pretty beam turrets.
Good eye, it is indeed somewhat based of those pre-rendered effects, a reference. Similarly new nomad shipline is based on pre-rendered original intro cutscene and concept art. Keep in mind these 'beam weapons' aren't actual beam weapons of course but a substitute in absence of actual game mechanic needed to implement them. Think of them as almost-railguns instead, but resulting weapon isn't an instant-hit nor a guaranteed hit for the matter, and it's not a hitscan weapon either, in case anyone is worried they'd hit anything all the time.
Likely they'll first appear as event-only weapons to experiment with and to see how they will perform in actual combat environment. There isn't equivalent of them right now and zappers don't count since they don't work anyway.
So I guess there'll be human versions of those eventually, just not initially. I'm kinda viewing noms as experiment platform to try out new ideas where it is less difficult to rollback changes.
Before I move onto showcasing new environments for old systems one last nom weapon video. Noms still don't have flaks and here what I'm doing about it.
Worth to note those aren't really homing projectiles at all. In fact in game mechanic it runs exactly the same as other flaks, but it's purely visuals that make it look different.
This Galaxy is vast; its wonders and beauty are almost unfathomable. But the galaxy also hides dark secrets, some of which have lain dormant since the beginning of time itself. There is a danger in secrets, both in seeking and in knowing. Some things are meant to be hidden from view. Some mysteries defy understanding, and sometimes even the things we think we know are untrue. Some secrets should remain untouched.
But fancy stuff ain't just for nomads. Here's something to Order folks. Since FK is making new cap bridges 'cockpits' I've decided to give a quick try at that and here's what I came up with:
