The painful point that old programs run on older OS's way.. better cant be denied here. Alley is doing.. like dissertation level work here trying to bring this game "up" to "date" into realms of computing that didn't exist when freelancer came out.

You guys realise when FL came out that 16 gigs of ram was high for some servers? But my personal box has it now. GTA 5 uses 2 gigs of my 4 gig video card. and other examples that frankly fit the (how far we've come) meme.

Alot of stuff has changed. YET the impermanence of technology includes the fact some people who play this old game.. do it on old machines.. and is a significant factor to who plays here.

So.. theres the dilemma.. Compatibility goes so far.. how does one stretch that envelope without leaving people behind is the most prudent issue.

I dont want to kick em out. I dont think its right persay.

Hm,
whats the fact?
1. some have nerver hardware and os's (win xp, 7, ..)
2. some have old hardware and an old os [(xp sp2, sp3) be glad that none comes around "with i have w2k, or 98se"
3. some have never hardware and an old os
4. some have old hardware and a new os

questions not asked yet:
why?
maybe
- xp is a nice gaming platform for a couple of older games. someone wrote he plays gta5 on his pc. cool, fine for him. but i dont know if a heavily modded sh3gxw and san andreas runs on 7 or 8 or even 10. what about the circumstance to use xp for that? if someone uses his the same client for gaming, working, banking - even with a new? os merry christmas (the rheinlaendish original "frohe weinachten"). freelancer is a old game. wanna play a new one - try elite dangerous or take your journey with star citizen (and be sure to have the adequate hardware).

- the ones with the fine machines can run xp sp3 in a virtual machine. you can call it solidarity - like you do it in game with the other members of your faction. its a game.

best wishes i

some people who play dc are not able to buy a new os. a legal win7 is not for free. maybe its bundeled with something - and that something is not for free. it costs money.
the people who play this game are very different. they originate from different countries, languages, timezones, factions, etc. pp. imho sould the weakest link of the chain determine what client os in minimum is required.

Well, here is my 5 cents worth.

So far I've found zero bugs, except for the version number still being at 4.88.0, which is nothing at all in the scheme of things.

I'm still running XP (SP3) and after following instructions it was like nothing had been updated at all, except for the game starting a little slower than usual the first time around after the update.

A test team for XP SP3? Why? If something goes wrong for me, I will let the appropriate people know about it, but in all the time I've played Disco in it's various versions, I've only had problems a handful of times and those have been sorted very quickly -or- have been my fault.

I'm pretty sure that the other players here that are still using XP are keeping up to date as much as possible, that is for various program updates, anti-virus and so on.

One day it may be the case that the Devs here won't be able to make advances without stopping support for XP, but I can't see that happening for quite some time yet.

Mickk: One orginal, 4 clones. Telp..teleh....mind comu...comi..come...talking ability.
A possibly very ordinary signature coming soon.
