Use of jump holes, rather than knowledge of them, is an entirely different discussion. Everyone uses them, it's accepted as necessary, Ageira propaganda or not. You need to use a jump hole to get to your faction guard system. LSF has to use one to run an assault on Minor. Unlawfuls/Zoners/IMG send billion-credit battleships through jump holes, because it's the only option... But they don't think twice about it. Even in the SP campaign, while some holes were unstable and not always open, when they were open no one ever was ever worried that they might be dangerous.

About the Bounty Hunters, they don't reveal the location of unlawful jump holes and bases to the authorities, as they want to preserve their main source of income. If the navy knew the locations of the bases, they'd be long destroyed.

That's what the rumours suggest.

Looking at my little Ant-Problem at home......
If I would figure out where their "Base" is at, I would smoke them out without a blink.
Yeah, my table would not be as clean as its now, if they were gone, but on the other hand it would save me a lot of money.

The so called "Save Bubble" around enemy Bases should be respected by every player.
We dont have the Gameplay-Mechanics for the base defenses and in most cases we could not even defend them on our own.
Its looking stupid, if a single cruiser, or even 3 of them, were sitting 1 klick away from Manhattan or Berlin.
The whole fighterfleet on the Planet would take off to wipe them out in seconds.

Its up to you again "good/bad" guys! Think yourself into the Game. What would happen?

Most unlawful bases are not hidden well, and there are plenty of NPCs who in-RP would share the 'secret' for a little cash (or a little booze). Most jump holes are not hidden well. As I have pointed out, the idea that they would stay secret for an extended period of time is ludicrous. Not every character would know about every base and every JH, because not all characters go everywhere.

I can buy lawfuls knowing that a base rumored to be in the "somewhere" in the badlands. But the exact location would NOT be known. Reason is ... with such a strong defensive force within the badlands, no lawful would venture far enough in to find the actual base. So rumors of a base being there would be valid ... but don't tell me the exact location is a well known fact ... that I won't buy. And the Texas and NY jump holes near Buffalo Base would be the same. You could have rumors of jump holes ... but if you can't get past the badlands defenses ... you'd never find the actual position of these jump holes.

Please please do not let game mechanics and your personal knowledge of these things be transferred to your role play character.

Perhaps, but maintaining that illusion requires that everyone maintain the illusion, or willfully ignore anyone who doesn't, or who has conflicting RP (which there are many legitimate possibilities for).

I think to assuming that places isolated enough to house an unlawful base are hotbeds of criminal activity makes perfect sense. And I'm not talking about the bad side of town, I'm talking about the mountains of Afghanistan. These aren't petty criminals with handguns and knives, these are trained killers with military weaponry, in terrain which they know better than anyone. The location of a base could be discovered by the authorities (and would most likely be, as far as I'm concerned), but if those authorities assaulted that base they'd be flying through hostile territory where a squad of bombers or gunboat could be hiding behind any rock, ready to use hit-and-run tactics to the best of their ability (which NPCs don't do, and human players aren't allow to do, but are very effective tactics). It's too risky to attempt a military assault.

We're all agreeing that lawfuls shouldn't be camping unlawful bases, and probably shouldn't be going anywhere near them, we're just divided on our opinions of the exact reason why they should stay away.

Right ... and yet Osama Bin Laden still cannot be found. You know he's somewhere in those mountains ... yet you don't know the exact location. There's tons of caves out there ... but you cannot point to where he actually hangs out.

There's a difference between hearing a rumor of a base in the badlands and actually seeing the base in the badlands. Lawfuls might hear rumors of a base in the badlands ... but they haven't actually been there. So they cannot know for a fact where the base is. Keep in mind ... rumors are only partial truths. A rumor has elements of truth ... but the details usually vary from person to person depending on who's telling the story.

I don't have any problem with pirates being chased to their base, even if the chasers use jumpholes to do it. What I do have a problem with is the idiot traders (who shall remain nameless - trial by forum is bad) who are allowed to get away with docking on a pirate's own base in order to escape pirating.
