My proposal is this: Arm transports with extended range gunboat weaponry That is to say, guns with a range of about 1100 over 1-2 seconds of travel time, with dps of between 2500-3000 for the 'primaries' (thats adding 600-800 dps to the current guns, no other change) Give Transports Missile turrets, and pulse cannons. Give them Razors.
The gunboats will retain stronger sheilds, and much better agility, but transports will come out looking like absolute machines. Pirates will want to use transports, and police organizations will pick up the transports as well. Transports will be found everywhere, as the general purpose, slightly less than military organizations will see them as quite useful, rather than the entirely vulnerable boats they are today. People will spamm them, rather than gunboats, which are military hardware.
People will trade more to earn the hundreds of millions nessisary to replace their gunboats with transports, which will stimulate the rp cycle.
And, on topic, Sirius is not slotted into the nice, simple, lawful times of the 21st century. Its much more the dark ages, or the wild west(or, my favorite, the age of piracy). Criminals are floating around with military hardware, and often -better- military hardware, than the houses themselves.
We have enough tech. In RP we should be underpowered little bastards, in reality the lawful/unlawful population is 80/20 and the tech is equally matched.
For all you people who suggest that the lawfuls get big ships and wtfpwnz the unlawfuls: don't you get it? That's what happened last time, and now the problem is back and is the same. Obviously escalation is the solution once again.
' Wrote:Hmm ... seems about a year or so ago that the roles were reversed. You'd enter New York and see uber-cap lawfuls everywhere.
Its not the GB pirates that's the issue here bub ... its the lack of lawfuls. Things go in waves. There were no rules created to limit the uber-cap lawfuls way back ... why advocate for rules now? Sounds more like lawfuls need to get active and recruit.
That is exactly how it was about a year ago. Back then, most pirates had bombers (in the Liberty area anyways). You are also right about the "waves" or patterns on the server. Things kinda go in circles sometimes...
On topic: To be honest, whenever I see a GB on my LSF char. (flies an Avenger VHF), I just go the opposite way or ignore them (unless they try to RP with me or seem docile enough to RP with). Go ahead and call me cowardly, but I currently have no where enough money for a proper bomber setup (or fighter setup for that matter) and I really do not feel like going onto my only RPable character just to be shot down with no chance at survival by X pirate.
Basically, just avoid confrontations with bigger ships unless you are absolutely sure you can take them down.
Oh, and that reminds me. A little bit of tactical teamwork is never a bad idea. A few tactics you should try when you are working with other people are:
- Lure out your enemy,
- Do not alert your enemy until you are within range to battle (still give a good engagement notice!),
- Come from different directions to confuse your enemy (if you have teammates),
- Use tradelanes to your advantage by having your teammates come in at a select time,
- Focus your fire,
- Be selective about your battles!
Simple solution: Call the Telephone Navy; they deal with this.
The Police are supposed to deal with smugglers and domestic problems like angry traders and insane Freelancers. Not powerful gunboat toting pirates. I'm sure the LNS-Aurora would be quite pleased to kick the crap out of a few pirates.
"THE HULL HAS BEEN BREACHED AND THESCIENCEIS LEAKING OUT!"
' Wrote:mind you - that standard was mostly suggested BY the police itself! - i have not seen many pirates saying "oi, you police lot, you must not fly gunboats against us"
so - the best counter to gunboats are ( surprise ) destroyers. - but the police factions cut themselves from those ships - by their own free will.
now you really cannot complain that you have no effective counter against gunboats. - the official police refused to allow the use of such large ships ( out of the responsibility not to spin the capital ship spiral more upwards or other reasons - who knows ) - but cause YOU don t want to use the large ships doesn t mean that the same must apply to the enemy that never asked NOT to use gunboats etc.
when players say "bombers own everything" - be my guest - deploy masses of bombers - if there are players to fly them. but it really was the police factions themselves that voluntarily wanted not have destroyers and battleships listed in their ID. - it was not a demand of the pirates.
its like saying "we zoners have decided not to use capital warships at all anymore! - how DARE you nomads to attack us with battleships!!!"
edit:
what does a pirate want? - he primarily wants to rob traders and either avoid the police or successfully fight the police. - that is RP. if he wants to "match" the opposing police forces - he must rely on the police forces to play fair, too. - i daresay, there are enough pirates that got attacked by overwhelming forces when they were trying to pirate in a single bomber or even a fighter. (only, no police would ever come to the forum saying "whoa, these pirates - we owned them 3 to 1 easily!" )
The police are exactly that, police. Not military, not the navy. If we followed your advice, we'd become basically a low powered navy faction, which isn't what policing is about.
' Wrote:on the other hand why do i care? Hopefully there will be so many pirates in NY that traders will start going trough omegas. More profit for my crew.
For me and a few other traders I've known and talk to, this is actually what is in progress. Perhaps if the traders concentrate on the Omegas, Liberty's horrible lawful/unlawful ratio will even out.

Always how I've seen it, as have the leadership of the police factions it seems.
It happens both ways. Pirates get swarmed just like the rest of everyone else. Just the other day it was 3 bombers and 2 bh gs vs my hacker gs with the lawfulls loling in sys about killing pirates. I just pm'd everyone gf and moved on. It happens to all.
Relax, if the odds are stacked to much against you, go one system over. Most don't follow. There are other places in liberty then new york.
Ohh yeah, it is a game. If you get too angry you could watch tv or go out and play in the sun.
