' Wrote:What about everyone who was present on the 4.85 development team that traded their way to riches before the new economy took effect?
Who is "everyone"? I did not trade my way to anything. I helped test a few ships (and even then I could spare little time) in between working, studying and doing a whole load of other more important real-life stuff. And even then, the trade system was the same for everyone beforehand.
Of course, you could argue that that was "insider trading".
' Wrote:The entire community new that the trading system was going to get a massive overhaul and that the new version would not be as profitable as the old. This was discussed to great lengths on these forums for everyone to see, long before the knew version came out. So people had ample time to trade away before the new version. Even so, I'd suggest you don't use the word 'everyone' when speaking about the development team. I didn't do an ounce of trading during the entire development of .85. That's not an exaggeration. And I know a lot of others who traded only as much as necessary to upkeep the ships they already had or their factions.
When it came to the trading system changes, everyone here knew just as well as the devs that it was being changed and downgraded.. No one had an unfair advantage.
Don't tell me how to speak Dab.
I know for a fact there were a good many people present that began trading before the economy discussions became public. So get off your high horse, your attitude is childish and I'm tired of it. You did good work, everyone who participated this.
But everyone doesn't neccesary refer to the team as a whole, it can refer to a segment of the team. Hence the phrasing. The point was exploitation occurs everywhere, everyone does it.
People bought capital armours for cheap and then resold them on the player market knowing that they would turn a keen profit. We just tend to single out one event and work up a microcosm instead of viewing the grand picture.
Edit: And no, I'm not naming names. That will get us nowhere fast.
' Wrote:Then how come so few people get sanctioned under Rule 1.2?
My point entirely, it isn't as large an issue as its being made out to be. There were several occasions in which people did things that may be considered harmful to server gameplay, but in the end weren't.
When you're talking about things you don't have a clue about, I will.

You do realize, the economy discussions STARTED as public and moved to the dev forums.. Right? The suggested changes came from the community, not from the devs. The public knew before the dev team began to think about it.

Am I really hearing this? Definition of everyone;
Quote:every person : everybody
Everyone does refer to the team as a whole. The word everyone encompasses everyone involved with whatever you're referring to. If you meant a segment, you should've said, some, most, a portion, or any word that means it. Everyone means just that; Every person involved. Making what you said quite untrue.

Please, point me out to the people who bought them cheap, then sold them later. Also, what level armor upgrades were they? Mk Is? MkVs? MkIVs? VIIs? VIIIs? Which?
You're making accusations with nothing to back up what you say. You're throwing them out there at the dev team as a whole. You're not saying specific people did it, just the dev team, and you've provided no evidence to any of it. How, then, can we take anything you say to heart?
The things you learn, I did not even realise people were exploiting Slave Liners or armour upgrades! Just goes to show how sad some people are.
Is this thread not being diverted from it's purpose? 1.2 is there to cover behaviour that is detrimental to the server and not covered by the rules. It seems perfectly reasonable to me that 1.2 is there and if abused can be overturned by Igiss or the community if abused by the admins. People seem to forget we have a voice, it's what led to Virus's admin suspension.
In summary, quit talking about old stuff and play in the present and look to the future.
I think they have one thing in common - exploiting a game mechanic (edit: the system that is - I mean both the game mechanics and the surrounding structure that allows the game to be played) for advantage, although you could argue that overkilling ( as in the case of the first one) is not entirely sanctionable under 1.2. Sure, they are pretty subjective, but the rule by its very wording is subjective. And sometimes rules have to be: because that allows discretion.
No, I wont name names simply because a trial wont be any good. I know someone, personally, who purchased sets fo Cap VI and Cap VIIs and then sold them. Boo hoo, he was smart.
Pricing wasn't published, but I know people who were aware of the drastic change and decided to grind. Oh well, they knew, others didn't.
Everyone when used with a qualifying adjective does not refer to a whole, as such everyone on the development team who traded is separate than everyone on the development team itself.
I could in public eye provide proof, skype logs, some screen shots too. But I wont, it isn't needed, and its beside the point. I know it happened, I'm willing to bet you do too.

Dab is right. . . I think everyone knew ahead of time of the changes to the trading system . . .
I don't see the big deal of people taking "advantage" of a good trade route before the mod changes in the next version . . .
I know many players who made enough credits to buy a system on the planet Harris thing. . . (but for some reason I always hated that one . .. boring for me)
